A countryside comfort binge with city-level convenience, the Hajnal Hotel in Mezőkövesd is rolling out its Disznótor Weekend: a buffet-driven, live-music pig feast paired with wellness downtime. It’s tailor-made for anyone who loves classic Hungarian flavors and wants to relive the old-school village butchering vibe without giving up a hot pool and a comfy bed. Dates run January through April and again October to December 2026, with a minimum of 40 guests needed to run each event.

Friday: Set the Mood

Arrive on Friday and head straight to a live-music buffet dinner. It’s generous, loud in the best way, and designed to set the tone for a full weekend of feasting. The hotel’s warm, family-style service wraps the whole thing in that familiar Hungarian hospitality that turns strangers into tablemates.

Saturday: Full Disznótor Day

The day kicks off early with a proper wake-up: one pálinka and one cup of mulled wine per person, available at reception from 7:00–9:00. Then comes a big buffet breakfast from 7:00–10:00. At noon, tradition takes over with a buffet lunch loaded with pork rib soup (orjaleves) with thin noodles and vegetables, cabbage with pork (toros káposzta), roast pork with potatoes, and fresh strudel. Come evening, the spotlight lands on the grand Disznótor with live music and a buffet spread that reads like a love letter to pork. Expect soups; roasts and ribs; blood sausage (hurka) and sausage (kolbász); mashed potatoes with onions; stuffed cabbage; and desserts including honey cream slice and pudding. It’s spirited, social, and absolutely packed with the flavors people come here for.

Sunday: Big Breakfast, Gentle Goodbye

Wrap up with a hearty buffet breakfast stocked with cracklings and bacon. It’s a fitting final plate for a weekend of generous portions and laid-back fun.

Wellness On Tap

Between meals, the hotel’s wellness area is yours—pacing the indulgence with soak, steam, and recharge time. It’s the antidote to that second plate of ribs.

Pros
+
Family-friendly setup with kid discounts, free stays for under-4s, and roomy multi-bed options, so it’s easy for U.S. families to come along
+
Easy pricing and no deposit needed, pay on site with card, and rates are good value for a full weekend of meals, music, and wellness
+
Wellness area between feasts is a legit perk—pools/saunas help balance all the pork and keep non-foodies happy
+
Strong cultural immersion: live music and a classic Hungarian disznótor lets you sample real regional flavors without roughing it
+
English not essential: buffet format, hotel setting, and staff used to visitors make it workable with minimal Hungarian
+
Reasonable access by car from Budapest and Eger; parking included and you can keep using facilities after checkout
+
Extra-night add-ons with free treatments are a fun, quirky European wellness twist you won’t often find stateside - Not vegetarian/vegan or pork-averse friendly—menus are extremely meat-heavy and centered on pork
Cons
Mezőkövesd isn’t a globally famous spot, so first-time U.S. visitors may need extra planning versus Budapest-based events
Public transport is doable but not seamless from Budapest; you’ll likely change from train to local bus/taxi to reach the hotel
Similar food-and-folk weekends exist elsewhere in Central/Eastern Europe, so if you’ve done a Slovak/Czech/Polish village feast, the concept may feel familiar rather than unique
