A winter-into-spring and fall favorite is back in Mezőkövesd: the Hajnal Hotel is rolling out its live-music, all-you-can-eat pig feast weekends with wellness on the side. It’s a cozy, countryside-style celebration of classic Hungarian flavors, paired with hotel comforts and a schedule built for relaxing, eating, and lingering with friends.

When, where, and how it works

Dates run January–April and October–December 2026, with a dedicated three-day kickoff from 2026.01.30 (Friday) to 2026.02.01 (Sunday) at 3400 Mezőkövesd, Hajnal u. 2. The event takes place only if at least 40 people book. Friday sets the mood with a buffet dinner and live music, Saturday is the all-day pig feast program, and Sunday closes with a hearty breakfast.

Friday: set the tone

Arrivals are greeted with a generous buffet dinner backed by live music—instant atmosphere and a social vibe that carries through the whole weekend. The hotel’s friendly, family-style service keeps the experience warm and unpretentious.

Saturday: full-on pig feast day

The morning starts in true disznótor spirit: each guest gets one shot of pálinka and a cup of mulled wine, available at reception 7:00–9:00. A full buffet breakfast follows 7:00–10:00. At noon, tradition takes center stage with a buffet lunch featuring orja soup with fine noodles and vegetables, toros cabbage, roast meats with potatoes, and fresh strudel. The evening is the highlight: a live-music disznótor with a stacked buffet—soups; roast meats and ribs; hurka and kolbász; mashed potatoes with onions; stuffed cabbage; and desserts including honey cream slice and pudding. It’s crowd-pleasing, communal, and unapologetically hearty.

Sunday: send-off breakfast

The weekend wraps with an abundant breakfast buffet that includes cracklings and bacon—a final, savory nod to a flavor-packed stay.

Wellness included

Between meals, guests can slip into the Hajnal Hotel wellness area for downtime and recharging, so the feast never feels too heavy.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with kids’ discounts, simple rooms, and live music that’s fun but not stuffy
+
Constant food and a wellness area between meals = easy, low-effort weekend for all ages
+
Good value for U.S. travelers (2 nights with tons of food for roughly mid-range hotel prices)
+
Hungarian pig-feast tradition (disznótor) is a cool, authentic cultural deep-dive you won’t get at home
+
Mezőkövesd is near the Matyó folk-art heartland—easy add-on sightseeing for culture lovers
+
Flexible payment, no deposit, and you can check in early/use wellness before the room is ready
+
Reachable from Budapest by train+short taxi or by car in ~1.5–2 hours, with on-site parking - The subject is niche internationally—most U.S. visitors won’t recognize “disznótor,” so expectations need a quick Google primer
Cons
Location (Mezőkövesd) isn’t a marquee stop for foreign tourists, so less English signage and fewer big-city conveniences
Hungarian not strictly required, but knowing a few phrases will help with staff, menus, and the bonus-treatment process
Comparables abroad: German/Austrian beer-and-pork fests are bigger and more famous; this is smaller, cozier, and more meat-heavy than family attractions like farm parks or food halls in other countries
