A winter escape steeped in tradition, sizzling flavors, and toe-tapping live music is rolling into Mezőkövesd. From Friday to Sunday, February 13–15, 2026, head to 3400 Mezőkövesd, 2 Hajnal Street, for a full-throttle disznótoros (pig-slaughter feast) weekend that blends nostalgic countryside vibes with hotel comfort and wellness. Think juicy hurka and crispy kolbász, rich roasts, and the kind of Hungarian flavors that carry a whole village’s story—served buffet-style, with music, laughter, and late-night singalongs baked in.
How the Weekend Unfolds
The Hajnal Hotel recreates the classic Matyó-style pig feast from January through the end of April, then returns in autumn and early winter. The promise: old-school authenticity with modern ease—comfy rooms, friendly staff, and a wellness corner for your post-feast reset. Friday night kicks off with a bountiful buffet dinner set to live music, putting everyone in the mood to mingle. The event runs with a minimum of 40 people, so bring your crew or make new friends at the long tables.
Saturday: The Big Feast
The day starts early in true disznótor fashion. Between 7:00 and 9:00, pick up 1 shot of pálinka and 1 cup of mulled wine per person at reception. Then it’s a hearty buffet breakfast from 7:00 to 10:00.
Lunchtime swings traditional: a buffet with orjaleves (pork broth) with fine noodles and vegetables, toros káposzta (pork and cabbage), roasts with potatoes, and fresh strudel. The evening delivers the weekend’s highlight: a live-music disznótor with a sprawling buffet—soups; roast meats and ribs; hurka and kolbász; oniony mashed potatoes; töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage); plus desserts like mézes krémes and pudding. Music, clinking glasses, and full plates—this is the warm, communal heart of winter.
Sunday Send-Off
Wrap it up with a generous buffet breakfast featuring tepertő and bacon. One last taste of rustic comfort before you head home—smiling, and probably plotting your return.
Wellness, Too
This isn’t just a feast. Guests get access to the hotel’s wellness facilities, so you can soak, unwind, and recharge between meals. It’s tailor-made for those who love Hungarian home cooking, live music, and a cozy, special getaway in Mezőkövesd.
