Every Wednesday, the Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galéria) transforms into a hotspot for creative seniors. If you’re over 60 and interested in art, themed exhibitions, and hands-on crafting, this is your invitation. The museum hosts guided walks through both permanent and temporary exhibitions, focusing on three to five artworks around a central theme. Groups discuss, get inspired, and then head to the creative workshop to make their own art.
Rose-Scented July
On July 23, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, it’s all about roses. This session explores floral paintings, symbols, and artistic attributes inspired by the scent of roses. After the gallery tour, participants head to the workshop to craft aprons decorated with unique medieval floral motifs.
August’s Secession Style
On August 13, also from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, dive into the world of Secession (Art Nouveau). It’s not just about posters—expect Art Nouveau furniture, ceramics, and decorative objects that recall the charm of turn-of-the-century design. After exploring the “Art of Living” (“Az élet művészete”) exhibit, everyone creates their own Secession-style posters.
