Discover Nagykőrös 2026 fairs: heritage markets with livestock, artisans, food, and entertainment at Alsójárás dűlő 1. Family-friendly dates February–December, early gates, vibrant trade and tradition.
when: 2026. February 20., Friday

Nagykőrös throws open its gates for ten bustling fairs in 2026, offering a vibrant mix of tradition, trade, and open-air revelry. Set at Alsójárás dűlő 1 (Land Reg. No. 0247), the markets draw crowds for clothing, gifts, plants, and a full range of livestock and pets. Expect horse, cattle, pig, goat, sheep, and poultry sellers, plus small-animal vendors, alongside a colorful cast of artisans, food vendors, and entertainers keeping centuries-old customs alive.

Centuries of Privilege

The city’s right to hold fairs dates back to a royal charter, later affirmed by the Apostolic Royal Majesty Maria Theresa in December 1759. Honoring that legacy, the orderly council of Nagykőrös set the 2026 market days below. Heirs to the horsemen, herdsmen, swineherds, and shepherds are welcome to drive in all “legged stock,” from steers to mixed breeds. Also expected: today’s keepers of old guild crafts, merchants, grill stalls, minstrels, jesters, fire-eaters, showfolk, and criers—all who bear a true seal of trade and pay the market toll in good faith. Issued in 2026, signed by Dr. Szabolcs Czira, Mayor of the market town of Nagykőrös.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with animals, artisans, and street performers that kids and adults can enjoy together
+
Easy to pick a date—there are 10 fairs across the year, so it’s simple to fit into a Europe trip
+
Authentic Hungarian rural culture with centuries-old fair rights—feels “real,” not touristy
+
Livestock and pet areas make it a unique experience you won’t get at most U.S. craft or farmers’ markets
+
Low-cost fun with food stalls, music, and traditional crafts that are great for casual browsing
+
No Hungarian required for browsing and buying basics; vendors at big fairs often manage simple English or gestures
+
Reachable by car from Budapest in about 1–1.5 hours and has morning-to-early-afternoon hours for an easy day trip - Not a globally famous event or city, so friends back home won’t instantly recognize Nagykőrös or the fair’s name
Cons
Limited English signage and announcements; deeper conversations about animals, breeds, or craft history may need a translator app
Public transport is doable but slower and less direct than driving, especially with the very early gate times
Compared with big European medieval fairs or U.S. state fairs, it’s more rustic and practical—less spectacle, more trade atmosphere
