where: Hungary, Népsziget Szúnyog-sziget

Budapest’s Népsziget (People’s Island) Kultfeszt returns May 15–16, 2026, throwing open the former MAHART (Hungarian Shipping Company) Ship Repair Yard to reveal one of the city’s most vibrant creative hubs. Across the raw, industrial spaces of Zsilip Street, painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramicists, and designers who’ve carved out studios here are stepping into the light together.

Studios, Shows, Workshops

For two days, the residents turn their workspaces into a living gallery, with joint exhibitions that thread through the complex and hands-on workshops inviting visitors to get messy, make something, and meet the artists face-to-face. Expect that heady mix of oil paint, clay dust, and camera flashes that only an industrial art maze can deliver.

Live Music Finale

As the sun sets on Saturday, the Baló Sámuel Trio (Baló Sámuel Trió) closes the festival with a live set, sealing the weekend with jazz-inflected energy. The best part: every exhibition, workshop, and concert is free—no tickets, no barriers, just art in full flow on Népsziget (People’s Island).

2025, adrienne
