From May 8 to June 5, Ócsa turns into a buzzing cultural playground, then keeps the momentum rolling all summer with free clubs, nature walks, concerts, theater, and family days across multiple venues. The 50th Ócsa Cultural Days (Ócsai Kulturális Napok) anchors the season with opera, rock poetry, literature, wellness, and heritage events designed to bring the town together—kids, teens, parents, and grandparents included.

A day for women’s health and balance

May 10 opens with The Treasure of Health – Women’s Health Day, weaving lectures and demos into a feel-good program about body-mind balance and everyday self-care. It leans into the influence women—often as mothers—have on their families’ health habits and aims to boost confidence in that role.

Birdsong, nestlings, and the Selyem-rét trail

Also on May 10, Bird and Tree Day on the Selyem Meadow (Selyem-rét) study trail invites bird lovers to peek at nest boxes and meet the trail’s feathered residents during peak nesting season. If conditions allow, chicks will be ringed for scientific research, and participants can learn about bird banding up close. The tour runs with a minimum of 10 sign-ups.

Opera echoes in a medieval church

On May 11, a József Gregor memorial concert returns to the Ócsa Reformed Monument Church, reviving a beloved local tradition. Soloists from the Hungarian State Opera bring the greatest arias to a space famed for its acoustics and atmosphere.

Free club programs at the Gábor Egressy Leisure Center recur weekly: May 11–16, May 18–23, May 25–30, June 1–6, then throughout summer (June 8–13, 15–20, 22–27; June 29–July 4; July 6–11, 13–18, 20–25, 27–Aug 1; Aug 3–8, 10–15, 17–22, 24–29, 31–Sept 5; Sept 7–12, 14–19). May 13: Poetry at Any Price (VersMindenÁron) brings actor Áron Sövegjártó to Egressy for students of Ócsa János Bolyai High School (Ócsai Bolyai János Gimnázium). Classic and contemporary poems arrive with humor and energy; attendance is free via the school.

Young chamber players, big hearts

May 14: Students from the Muses Elementary School of Arts (Múzsák Alapfokú Művészeti Iskola) Ócsa branch present a chamber concert at Egressy—an easy way to cheer on emerging talent.

Loud Friday (Hangos Péntek) at #abisztró runs May 15, 23, 29, June 5 and 12. Expect an easy night out with conversation, drinks, and rotating playlists: funk, house, techno, retro, or a request show—whatever fits the vibe.

May 15 doubles down with Aranyakkord, led by Quimby’s frontman Tibi Kiss alongside Gábor Vastag and Andor “Ufo” Gábor, in the Ócsa Reformed Monument Church. Poetic lyrics and propulsive melodies meet centuries-old walls for an intimate, powerful set of rock poetry.

Spring fen marvels

May 16: A guided tour explores the rarely visited corners of the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area. Orchids are the seasonal stars—several special species may appear—plus insights on fen ecology and the birds hunting overhead. Tickets are online only.

Café science and crafts that last

Also May 16: OPKE Café Evenings host science ambassador Balázs Boncsarovszki for a talk on how curiosity becomes research and how young scientists find their path; moderated by OPKE president Katalin Pappné Hajdu. Same day: Waldorf Doll Workshop, a monthly Saturday session (2–5 p.m.) at Egressy for anyone keen to sew a unique handmade doll. And for sports lovers, a small-field football tournament hits the city pitch.

May 17: The Pharmacy of Nature herb walk introduces common plants—what they are, how to recognize them, what they’re good for, and how uses have changed. May 27: Stand-up night—László Lakatos’s I’ve Arrived (Megjöttem) at Egressy, with opening act Olivér Wolf. Tickets run about 7,890–9,690 HUF (roughly 22–27 USD).
