where: 2364 Ócsa

Ócsa is rolling out a packed calendar from late April through June 2026, with tradition-keeping festivities, folk music and craft gatherings, family-friendly community events, and year-round leisure options across multiple venues in the 2364 area. The Egressy Gábor Leisure Center anchors much of the action with free weekly clubs, while streets, historical sites, and green trails host concerts, parades, and guided walks. It’s a full-tilt celebration for every age, with culture front and center.

Dance, Comedy, and Friday Vibes

On April 29, International Dance Day turns Ócsa into one big dance floor. Everyone’s invited to a joyous community flash mob—no age or skill barriers, just movement, music, and feel-good energy. That same day, stand-up takes the mic as comedian Péter Felméri brings his solo show Kincugi to the Dumaszínház stage at Egressy, with host Dániel Said. Tickets range from about $12 to $15. The Friday soundtrack kicks in weekly at #abisztró with Hangos Péntek—rotating funk, house, techno, retro, or even a full-on request night, perfect for chatting, sipping, and easing into the weekend.

May Day on Wheels, Clubs for All

May 1 wakes the town with a musical reveille: farmer Ferenc Kerepeczki drives his horse-drawn carriage while the Decibel band pumps live tunes through Ócsa’s streets. Wave from your window or fall in step for a block—either way, the cheer is contagious. Throughout April 27–May 2 and again May 4–9 and beyond, the Egressy Gábor Leisure Center runs free weekly clubs—open access, learn something new, meet people, and plug into a lively community.

Mother’s Day Crafting and a Golden Jubilee

On May 3, the Folk House (Tájház) hosts “Mothers at the Folk House,” a cozy morning of handiwork where daughters, sons, and partners craft special felt pieces amid a traditional costume doll collection—time together as the best gift. Then May 8 launches a milestone: Ócsa Cultural Days (Ócsai Kulturális Napok) turns 50. The opening gala features a podium talk with Anna Földiné Hajdu, whose vision birthed the Cultural Days half a century ago, plus an acoustic concert by singers Attila Kökény and Viktor Rakonczai. The jubilee month (May 8–June 5) spreads music, literature, theater, health, sports, faith, and fun—rock to opera, folk to contemporary—across all ages, with a detailed lineup to follow.

Engines, Mushrooms, Birds, and Well-being

May 9 is stacked: a Mushroom Knowledge Hike led by mycologist Lajos Boros of the Hungarian Mycological Society explores the Great Plain’s fungi, including ID tips and foraging for edibles. Meet by car; the group departs together. Online-only tickets. Back in town, the Benzingőz Festival & Women’s Sun Lounge revs up with a motor and car “petting” day—think gleaming rides, rock, and a parade before a dance-and-music afternoon outside Egressy. After dark, the Benzingőz AFTER tears up the floor with Purebeat and Ramit. On May 10, bird lovers hit the Selyem Meadow (Selyem-rét) nature trail for Nest Box Neighbors: checking nest boxes, observing chicks, and learning about bird ringing—tour runs with a minimum of 10 sign-ups. Also May 10, The Treasure of Health dedicates a full day to women’s wellness with talks and demos for everyday balance; because women often set the tone for a family’s health habits, this one’s both empowering and practical.

Opera Echoes and Young Voices

On May 11, the Ócsa Reformed Monument Church revives a beloved local tradition with an opera concert by soloists from the Hungarian State Opera—an homage to the legendary evenings once headlined by bass József Gregor. May 12 brings Words on Wings, a verse and prose talent search spotlighting works by milestone Hungarian authors like Zoltán Zelk, Éva Janikovszky, Lajos Kassák, and Gyula Illyés—though any writer is fair game. The next day, VersMindenÁron (“Poetry at Any Cost”) welcomes Ócsa’s high schoolers for a fast, funny, and vivid spin on classic and contemporary verse by actor Áron Sövegjártó—free under the Cultural Days banner. On May 14, the Muses Art School (Múzsák Művészeti Iskola) Ócsa students give a chamber concert at Egressy, a sweet chance to cheer the town’s rising musicians.

Rock Poetry in Sacred Stone

On May 15, the Aranyakkord project brings Quimby frontman Tibi Kiss with collaborators Gábor Vastag and Andor “Ufo” Gábor to the Árpád-era church. Expect poetic lyrics and pulsing melodies in an intimate, ancient setting—their “rock poetry between centuries-old walls” plays the room like a second instrument. Later, Hangos Péntek returns for the evening groove.

Hands-On Weekends and Wild Meadows

May 16 offers a Waldorf Doll Workshop (monthly, Saturdays 2–5 pm at Egressy) for anyone keen to stitch a unique, handmade doll, plus a small-sided football tournament at the municipal pitch. The ÓPKE Café Evenings host a relaxed talk with science ambassador Balázs Boncsarovszki—curiosity to research, questions to knowledge, and a young scientist’s path to public engagement—moderated by ÓPKE president Katalin Pappné Hajdu. Nature calls with Wonders of the Spring Fen Meadow in the rarely visited corners of the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area: orchids if luck is kind, plus the story of fen habitats, their species, and a chance to spot songbirds and hunting raptors. Tickets online only.

Herbs, Heritage, and Digital Skills

On May 17, The Pharmacy of Nature digs into edible, poisonous, and medicinal plants: how to recognize them, their history, and how uses have changed. Then brew tea and make a remedy like a cream or medicinal honey. Recommended from age 12, online tickets only. That day also highlights Premonstratensian heritage at the Reformed Monument Church. From May 18–20, seniors get hands-on with a Digital Education program, while Egressy’s free weekly clubs continue through late May and into June.

Authors, Theater, Forums, and Open Cellars

On May 22, bestselling Hungarian author Anita Tomor visits for an intimate writer–reader talk hosted with the Tamás Falu City Library (Falu Tamás Városi Könyvtár)—travel-inspired romances, children’s books, and the craft behind them. On May 23, Classical Guests steps in, followed by another Hangos Péntek. May 27 doubles up: the 2nd Participatory Forum invites older residents to a 2 pm roundtable on making city life more livable and connected, while comedian László Lakatos headlines the Dumaszínház at Egressy with I’ve Arrived (Megjöttem) at 7 pm, Olivér Wolf as opener. Tickets run roughly $19 to $24. May 29 stages a riotous two-act comedy, Killer Wedding Night, courtesy of HeArt Társulat, where modern app-born love meets a bride whose grooms never survive the honeymoon—paranoia vs. protection, love vs. madness. That night is part of the Seethaler Theater Evenings. On May 30, the Orbán Day Open Cellars take over the Öreghegy Cellar Row from 10 am with all-day tastings and programs. May 31 is pure joy: Children’s Day for kids big and small.

June Notes: Remembrance, Laughter, and Community

Weekly clubs keep rolling in June, while June 4 marks the Day of National Unity with a commemoration. June 5 salutes teachers with awards and hosts a Summer-Welcoming Catholic Charity Bring-a-Dish Ball—garden-party mood, music, tented courtyard, all for a good cause—plus another Hangos Péntek. On June 12, comedian Anett Kormos brings Women Have No Sense of Humor (A nőknek nincs humoruk) to Egressy with tickets around $25. By mid-to-late June, more free clubs await, and June 29–July 3 the Folk House (Tájház) hosts a summer day camp for kids aged 6–12. Ócsa’s spring into summer is one long invite: join in, show up, and make it yours.
