Ócsa is rolling out a packed calendar from early May through August, blending heritage, live music, theater, nature walks, workshops, and family fun across multiple venues. The city’s beloved Ócsa Cultural Days (Ócsai Kulturális Napok) turns 50 this year, expanding into a full-month celebration with concerts, talks, tours, and community programs — and that’s just the start.

Spring into the garden

On May 6, the Boldog Kert Club meets at the Egressy Gábor Leisure Center — an easygoing tune-up for greener thumbs ready to welcome spring. Expect friendly tips, a community vibe, and seasonal inspiration.

Fifty years of culture, one big opening night

May 8 launches ÓKN 50, the 50th Ócsa Cultural Days (Ócsai Kulturális Napok). The opening gala revisits how the series was born with Anna Földiné Hajdu, who envisioned the festival half a century ago. Music guests Attila Kökény and Viktor Rakonczai keep it intimate with an acoustic set, lighting the fuse for a month-long program spanning music, literature, theater, health, sport, faith, and entertainment. From rock to opera, folk to contemporary, the festival is about community and a living cultural present. The detailed schedule is rolling out, but the mood is set: this month is about everyone, together, making memories.

Engines, mushrooms, and an afterparty

May 9 goes full throttle with the Benzingőz Festival & Women’s Lounge (Benzingőz Fesztivál & Női Napozó), a motor and car showcase with rock and festival buzz. A parade across Ócsa leads into a music-and-dance afternoon from 13:00 in front of Egressy. The night carries on at Benzingőz AFTER with Purebeat & Ramit.

Also on May 9, a mushroom discovery tour guided by expert Lajos Boros of the Hungarian Mycological Society explores the plain’s fungi. Participants drive to the site in their own cars; learn to identify species and, where allowed, collect edible mushrooms. Tickets are online only.

Birds, nests, and a women’s wellness day

On May 10, the Selyem-rét educational trail hosts Bird and Tree Day: a guided walk tracking cavity-nesting birds, checking nest boxes, and, where possible, ringing chicks for scientific research — a rare, hands-on glimpse into avian life. The tour requires a minimum of 10 participants.

That same day, Health is Treasure spotlights women’s health with talks and demos focused on everyday balance and mindful living — recognizing how women shape health awareness in families and communities.

Opera echoes and student stages

May 11 revives a cherished tradition at the Ócsa Reformed Church (Reformed Monument Church), where the Hungarian State Opera’s soloists perform beloved arias in a tribute to József Gregor’s legendary evenings once held within those historic walls.

On May 12, On the Wings of Words (Szavak szárnyán), a poetry and prose talent search, invites performers to the Egressy chamber stage, spotlighting anniversary-year Hungarian authors like Zoltán Zelk, Éva Janikovszky, Lajos Kassák, and Gyula Illyés — and any other favorite writers participants bring along.

May 13 brings Poetry at Any Price (VersMindenÁron) for Ócsa’s János Bolyai High School (Bolyai János Gimnázium) students, with actor Áron Sövegjártó firing classical and contemporary poetry to life with humor and pace. Free for students under the 50th Cultural Days banner.

Young musicians and rock-poetry in a medieval church

On May 14, students from the Muses Art School (Múzsák AMI) Ócsa branch offer a chamber concert at Egressy — a chance to cheer on the city’s next generation of players.

May 15, the Aranyakkord concert — fronted by Quimby’s Tibi Kiss with collaborators Gábor Vastag and Gábor “Ufo” Andor — turns the Reformed Monument Church into a sanctuary of rock-poetry. Intimate, lyrical, and powerful, their songs unfurl beneath centuries-old stones.

Friday nights, football, and science over coffee

Loud Friday (Hangos Péntek) at #abisztró keeps rolling through May and June: rotating vibes from funk, house, techno, retro to request nights — less blowout, more feel-good talk and tracks.

On May 16, a small-pitch football tournament hits the city field; then ÓPKE’s Café Evenings host science ambassador Balázs Boncsarovszki in a laid-back talk on how curiosity becomes research and how young scientists find their path, moderated by ÓPKE president Katalin Pappné Hajdu.

Wet meadows, Waldorf dolls, and herbal know-how

Also May 16, The Wonders of the Spring Fen Meadow tours rarely visited corners of the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area. Keep an eye out for orchids and the birds hunting above. Tickets online only. That afternoon, the Waldorf Doll Workshop at Egressy invites crafters to create a one-of-a-kind handmade doll, monthly on Saturdays from 14:00 to 17:00.

May 17 offers The Premonstratensians in Ócsa at the Reformed Monument Church, and Nature’s Pharmacy (A természet gyógyszertára), a guided herb walk for ages 12+ exploring local wild plants, their history, uses, and recognition. The second half turns practical with tea and an herbal product like a cream or medicinal honey. Tickets are online only.

Digital basics for seniors and author talks

Digital training for seniors runs May 18–20, while the city’s free weekly clubs at Egressy recur throughout May, June, and July — open to anyone who wants to learn, grow, or just enjoy community.

On May 22, bestselling author Anita Tomor visits for an author-reader evening hosted with the Tamás Falu City Library (Falu Tamás Városi Könyvtár), sharing the travel-steeped inspirations behind her romantic and children’s books.

Comedy, forums, and a killer wedding night

May 27 at 19:00 brings comedian László Lakatos’s solo show I’ve Arrived (Megjöttem) at Egressy with opening act Oliver Wolf. Tickets range approximately from $21.30 to $26.30. That afternoon, the 2nd Participation Forum invites Ócsa’s senior residents at 14:00 to shape ideas for a more livable, active, community-first city.

On May 29, the HeArt Company (HeArt Társulat) stages A Killer Wedding Night (Hullajó nászéjszaka), a two-act comedy (2×50 minutes): modern love meets a deadly perfect bride whose grooms haven’t survived the wedding night, a family fighting fate, and a father helplessly in love. It’s slapstick with a razor’s edge between care and paranoia, love and madness. The play also features in the Seethaler Theater Evenings (Seethaler Teátrumi Esték) series the same day.

Open cellars, kids’ day, and civic moments

May 30 uncorks St. Urban’s Day Open Cellars (Orbán-napi Nyitott Pincék) on the Öreghegy Cellar Row from 10:00, folded into the 50th Cultural Days. May 31 is all about Children’s Day (Gyereknap) — games, smiles, and family time.

The Day of National Unity is marked with a commemoration on June 4. On June 5, a Summer-Welcoming Catholic Charity Bring-a-Dish Ball promises garden-party joy under tents, plus a Teachers’ Day (Pedagógus Nap) salute with city awards. Comedian Anett Kormos performs Women Have No Sense of Humor (A nőknek nincs humora) at Egressy on June 12; tickets are about $24.30.

Clubs, camps, and summer rhythm

Weekly free clubs continue June through July, alongside a Tájház summer day camp for kids aged 6–12 from June 29 to July 3. Loud Friday sessions keep the weekends warm. By the time August nears, Ócsa’s cultural heart is still beating — inclusive, hands-on, and very much alive.
