The Egressy Gábor Leisure Center runs a roster of free clubs every week through June and beyond. Participation is entirely free and open to anyone keen to learn, grow, or simply meet people and be inspired. Comedy Nights: Dumaszínház in Ócsa
On 04.29, Péter Felméri brings his solo show Kincugi to the Egressy Gábor Leisure Center, hosted by Dániel Said. Tickets range from 4,490–5,590 HUF (about 12.50–15.60 USD). Then on 05.27, László Lakatos arrives with Megjöttem, with opening act Oliver Wolf at the same venue, tickets 7,090–9,190 HUF (about 19.70–25.50 USD). Fridays Get Loud at #abisztró
Hangos Péntek turns Fridays into a choose-your-mood listening lounge: sometimes chill, sometimes dancey—funk, house, techno, retro, or even request nights to match the vibe. Dates include 05.01, 05.15, 05.23, 05.29, 06.05, and 06.12.
Mother’s Day Craft Morning at the Folk House
On 05.03, treat Mom—and yourself. A special morning invites older girls, women, boys, and men to surprise their mothers by making a felt craft in the folk costume doll collection space. Best gift? Time together.
Ócsa Cultural Days Turns 50
From 05.08 to 06.05, Ócsa celebrates the 50th Ócsa Cultural Days (Ócsai Kulturális Napok) with a month-long, multi-genre festival—music from rock to opera, folk to contemporary; literature, theater, health, sports, faith, and family fun for all ages. The opening night on 05.08 features a podium talk with Anna Földiné Hajdu recalling how the Cultural Days were born half a century ago, plus an acoustic opening concert with Attila Kökény and Viktor Rakonczai. Expect a vibrant tribute to the past and a living present.
Motors, Music, and Afterparty
On 05.09, the Benzingőz Festival & Women’s Sun Lounge (Benzingőz Fesztivál & Női Napozó) brings motors, cars, rock, and festival vibes. It starts with a local parade and revs into a music and dance afternoon from 13:00 in front of Egressy. Keep the floor moving at Benzingőz AFTER with Purebeat & Ramit later that evening.
Into the Wild: Mycology, Marshes, Birds, and Herbs
Also on 05.09, join mushroom inspector Lajos Boros from the Hungarian Mycological Society for a mycology walk across the Great Plain’s fungi world. Self-drive from the meeting point; learn ID skills and collect edible mushrooms. Tickets are online only.
On 05.16, The Wonders of the Spring Fen Meadow tour explores rarely visited zones of the Ócsa Landscape Protection Area, with a chance to spot wild orchids and hear about fen ecosystems. Tickets online only. On 05.17, The Pharmacy of Nature introduces edible, poisonous, and medicinal plants; participants brew tea and make herbal products like creams or medicinal honey. On 05.10, Bird and Tree Day at the Selyem-rét nature trail focuses on cavity nesters. Check nest boxes, see chicks where possible, and watch scientific bird ringing in action. The walk runs with a minimum of 10 participants.
Opera Echoes in the Árpád-era Church
On 05.11, an opera gala night fills the Ócsa Reformed Monument Church with beloved arias, reviving the spirit of legendary performances once given there by József Gregor. A dedicated József Gregor memorial concert the same day features soloists from the Hungarian State Opera. On 05.15, Kiss Tibi’s Aranyakkord (with Gábor Vastag and Andor “Ufo” Gábor) brings rock-poetry to the centuries-old sanctuary—intimate, lyrical, powerful.
Words on Stage, Words in School
On 05.12, On the Wings of Words (Szavak szárnyán), a poetry and prose talent search, spotlights works by jubilarians Zoltán Zelk, Éva Janikovszky, Lajos Kassák, and Gyula Illyés, alongside other favorites, in Egressy’s chamber hall. On 05.13, Poetry at Any Cost (VersMindenÁron) offers Ócsa’s high schoolers a lively, humorous lit session with actor Áron Sövegjártó—free as part of the Cultural Days. On 05.14, young musicians from the Ócsa program of Múzsák AMI give a chamber concert at Egressy.
Theater, Talks, Sports, Community
On 05.16, OPKE Café Nights hosts a conversational deep dive with science ambassador Balázs Boncsarovszki, moderated by OPKE president Katalin Pappné Hajdu. The same day: a small-field football tournament at the city pitch and a monthly Waldorf doll-making workshop at Egressy (14:00–17:00).
On 05.17, Premonstratensians in Ócsa focuses on the town’s monastic heritage in the Reformed Monument Church. From 05.18 to 05.20, there’s digital literacy training for seniors. On 05.22, an author–reader meet-up; on 05.23, Classics as Guests; and on 05.29, Seethaler Theater Nights presents A Killer Wedding Night (Hullajó nászéjszaka), followed the same day by the riotous comedy A Killer Wedding Night from HeArt Társulat—two 50-minute acts of modern love gone darkly funny.
Open Cellars, Kids’ Day, and Civic Moments
On 05.30, the Cultural Days join the Saint Urban’s Day Open Cellars (Orbán-nap Nyitott Pincék) at the Öreghegy Cellar Row from 10:00, with all-day programs. On 05.31, it’s Children’s Day (Gyereknap). Mark 06.04 for National Unity Day commemorations and 06.05 for the Teachers’ Day greeting and city awards ceremony. Summer kicks off with a Folk House day camp for kids aged 6–12 from 06.29 to 07.03.
