Every year, Madéfalva (Siculeni) hosts its wild and beloved Onion Festival, a unique event named after the town’s famous onions. Locals and visitors mingle over traditional food, music, and a market showcasing all kinds of homemade goods. The 2025 festival marks its 15th edition, taking over the community hall and sports field from August 28 to 31.
The Heart of the Festival
The real excitement kicks off on Saturday, August 30, known as Onion Tour (Hagymakörút) day. Six themed “onion points” serve up mouthwatering specialties, local wines, and live music. Highlights include roast lamb with cheesy polenta and Mogyoródi (from Mogyoród) wines at Siculicidium, venison grilled with onions and pumpkin-celery purée at Csíki Vadászok (Hunters of Csík), and rustic onion stew at Alszeg (Lower Village). The wine flows from Lengyel Winery (Polish Winery), Herend, and Szilágyság (Sălaj), while bands like Heveder and For Play keep the party going.
Tickets and Details
Tickets cost about $27 per person and are available at the town hall. The festival runs until August 31.
