Pápa is gearing up for a packed 2026 with exhibitions, concerts, theater, film screenings, museum workshops, food fests, and sports events, plus a long list of guaranteed and optional leisure programs. The city’s headliners are Esterházy Palace (Esterházy-kastély), the Blue-Dyeing Museum (Kékfestő Múzeum), and the Pannonia Reformata Museum (Pannonia Reformata Múzeum), while Várkert Bath (Várkertfürdő) delivers full-on wellness thrills. Inside and outside the city limits, hiking and day trips make Pápa an easy yes for curious travelers.
January–March Highlights
January 30 brings Hungarian Rhapsody (Magyar rapszódia) by the State Folk Ensemble (Magyar Állami Népi Együttes) to the Jókai Mór Cultural Center (Jókai Mór Művelődési Központ). Big dance, big music, big energy.
On February 2, Science Stand-Up (Tudományos Stand Up) lands as Krisztián Nyáry (Nyáry Krisztián) riffs on Thus They Loved (Így szerettek ők), ages 18+, at Dumaszínház, Pápa – Jókai Mór Cultural Center. Tickets run from about $18.40 to $19.20.
March doubles down on early music: on March 5, recorder artist Dániel Szurasenkó performs in Pápa, and on the same day, Dániel Szurasenkó’s solo series BACH 275 hits the Reformed Old Church. Tickets are roughly $11.00.
Comedy takes over March 10 with Two in One! (Kettő az egyben!) – the Szomszédnéni Production Office’s stand-up night at Dumaszínház, Pápa – Petőfi Cinema. Tickets are around $18.10 to $18.90.
On March 12, psychologist Noémi Orvos-Tóth presents How Do We Break Inherited Family Patterns? at the Jókai Mór Cultural and Leisure Center, with tickets from about $21.90 to $27.40.
Spring to Summer Stages
April 20 sets the table manners straight as Ibolya Görög’s Everyday Protocol – At the Table Too! comes to Petőfi Sándor High School, tickets about $15.30.
On June 5, organist Gergely Rákász plays MOZART at the Reformed Old Church, with tickets roughly $15.00.
Stay: Mills, Inns, and a 5-Star Camp
The Edvy Mill Inn Baroque Courtyard House is a restored watermill in a quiet setting 1.9 miles from the Pápa Thermal Bath. With capacity for 22 guests, it’s a solid family choice.
Holdkő Panzió sits right in the city center with a homey vibe. The three-story inn features 14 rooms—each floor with a different style but the same quality—designed for varied guest needs.
Next to Várkert Bath, Várkert Thermal Camping stands out as Hungary’s first and only campground meeting five-star requirements, with top ratings from multiple international camping bodies.
Rooms, Breakfast, Terrace Time
Rooms accommodate 2–3 guests and include a fridge, microwave, cable TV, Wi‑Fi, and shower blocks. A covered terrace invites late-evening drinks and chats. Breakfast is served on the terrace in good weather or to rooms on request. Parking is free.
Eat, Drink, Unwind
Pannonia Reformata Café and Wine Bar (Pannonia Reforamata Kávézó és Borbár) in downtown Pápa serves specialty coffees, hot drinks, iced sodas, soft-serve, toasties, and cakes, plus a broad beer and wine lineup.
A long-running downtown restaurant (opened April 1993) keeps its rule unchanged: the Guest comes first. From spring to fall, the terrace hums; in colder months, the winter garden serves warming drinks. Expect Hungarian classics, Italian and Mexican picks, burgers, salads, and desserts—ideal for chats, cocktails, business lunches, dinners, and private events.
Another easygoing spot pours coffee, hot chocolate, draft beer, and serves hot sandwiches—with darts, ping-pong, and Xbox. It’s also open to company parties and family gatherings.
Wine and Baths
Founded in 1992 in Hungary’s smallest historical wine region, the Somló Wine Order (Somlói Borrend) preserves and promotes Somló’s name and traditions, supports the local economy and tourism, and enriches cultural life.
At Várkert Bath, a self-service restaurant sits between the swimming pool and the thermal spa for bath-goers, while the à la carte side is open to all.
