Live Music Kicks Off at 8 PM
20:00 Menthol. Formed in 1996, Menthol is a bright spot on Hungary’s rock ’n’ roll map. In a big-band setup—drums, bass, keys, guitar, sax, plus male and female lead vocals—they play melodic rock ’n’ roll rooted in the ’50s, with a modern punch and theatrical swagger: slick hair, shades, and glossy color. Expect smash hits from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s alongside their own songs, built for dancing.
Headliner and Midnight Mayhem
22:00 Brains. Hungary’s most successful electronic live band storms in with festival-scale energy and club-honed precision. 23:45 RetroStar Party – DJ Gabry: blaze through the biggest Hungarian and international bangers of the ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s. 24:00 countdown, cheers, and “Happy New Year!” (B.Ú.É.K.). Then 00:05 more RetroStar with DJ Gabry until 02:00. Let’s close the year with our greatest favorites—together in Pécs.
2025, adrienne
Pros
+
Family-friendly vibes early in the evening with an open square, lively but not too rowdy before midnight
+
Internationally recognizable New Year’s Eve format (countdown, DJ, retro hits), so you’ll know what to expect even if the bands are local
+
Pécs is a well-known cultural city in Hungary and a UNESCO heritage hub, so pairing the party with sightseeing is a win
+
No Hungarian required to enjoy live music, countdowns, and street-party energy; cheers and “B.Ú.É.K.” are easy to pick up
+
Central square location (Széchenyi tér) is walkable from most Pécs hotels; city buses and regional trains link well from Budapest, and driving is straightforward with nearby parking garages
+
Comparable to European city-square NYE parties but with a distinctly Hungarian twist—local wineries, retro hits, and friendly small-city scale
+
Budget-friendlier than mega-events in Prague or Vienna, with good street food and wine options
- Headliners (Brains, Menthol, DJ Gabry) aren’t internationally famous, so music nostalgia may lean Hungarian
Cons
–
Late-night crowds, cold weather, and loud sets make it less ideal for very young kids after 10 pm
–
Pécs is less known to U.S. tourists than Budapest, so you’ll need to plan logistics and lodging early
–
Public transport back to outlying areas thins after midnight; rideshares/taxis can surge, and driving/parking near the square may be restricted
