From mid-July through December, the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs packs the calendar with hands-on heritage tours, night walks under the stars, jazz, cinema, kid-friendly workshops, smart talks, stand-up, and candlelit concerts. Built as the flagship of Pécs 2010 European Capital of Culture, the district now anchors the city’s arts and leisure scene with galleries, the live Manufactory, gardens, and the open-air Pirogránit Courtyard.

How to visit and what it costs

Programs run July 13–17 for the opening week, then continue through November and December, with special events into 2027. Most programs are in the 6,990–10,990 HUF range, roughly 18.90–29.70 USD, with some shows listing separate prices. Timed guided tours, exhibitions, and evening walks repeat across dates so you can pick your pace.

Signature Zsolnay experiences

Track eosin, the iridescent glaze that made Zsolnay famous, live in the Zsolnay Látványmanufaktúra (Visitor Manufactory), and peek at the Apostles’ Room ceramic panels on July 15, 22, and 29. Step inside the family home with In the Footsteps of the Zsolnays (A Zsolnayak léptei nyomában) on July 16, 23, and 30 to catch pivotal milestones in the factory’s rise and chapters of the Zsolnay family’s life. The summertime Pirogranite Evening Walk (Nyáresti Pirogránit séta) is a recurring charmer on July 16, 19, 26, and August 2: a gentle stroll through the Quarter’s fairy-tale buildings and park, a glass of Villány wine from Tiffán, then cinema, a laid-back concert, or a táncház folk dance under the stars in the Pirogránit Courtyard.

Golden Age deep dive: Gyugyi Collection

Discovery Walk in the Zsolnay Golden Age – Gyugyi Collection (Felfedező séta a Zsolnay Aranykora – Gyugyi-gyűjteményben) anchors multiple weekends: July 17–18, 24–25, and July 31–August 1. Guides spotlight standout masterpieces and the stories behind them. The exhibition occupies the Sikorski House, once a clay-washing and later carpentry workshop, then the home of Júlia Zsolnay (Zsolnay Júlia) and her husband, the celebrated Viennese engineer Tádé Sikorski (Sikorski Tádé). The area is listed as a Hungarikum, underscoring its national cultural value.

Cool walks, city-to-quarter routes

Cooling Walks (Hűsítő séta) offer breezy overviews of the Quarter and the globe-trotting Zsolnay legacy July 14–19, July 21–26, and July 28–August 2. Prefer a longer route? Zsolnay and Pécs – Walk from the Downtown to the Zsolnay Quarter (Zsolnay és Pécs – séta a belvárostól a Zsolnay Negyedig), on July 23 and August 30, links the downtown core to the Quarter’s “magical realm,” weaving art history with an urban stroll.

Pink and proud

Zsolnay in Pink (Zsolnay rózsaszínben), guided tours on July 21 and 28, opens the “In the Beginning Was the Pink…” collection: more than a thousand everyday Zsolnay objects curated by architect and academic Barnabás Winkler, all in the factory’s playful, varied pinks.

Kids, camps, and hands-on making

The Science Adventure summer camp (Természettudományos kaland) brings planetarium shows, eye-popping Magic Class (Varázsóra) experiments, crafty sessions, the Lab – Interactive Magic Space (Labor – Interaktív Varázstér), and the VR Universe to kids July 13–17, then July 20–24 for ages 7–10. Tales Sealed in Glaze (Mázba zárt mesék) introduces ages 4–8 to the Zsolnay world through playful storytelling on July 26, August 8, and August 20. Creative Tile Folding (Csempehajtogatás) workshops fold tile-pattern motifs into take-home items: an elegant gift bag on July 18 and August 15, and a custom notebook cover on August 8. Paint your own wall-ready ceramic mandala on August 2, recommended for ages 8–99. For families, the Donkey Ear Family Festival (Szamárfül Családi Fesztivál) rolls in August 28–30.

Jazz, cinema, and starry nights

Metronome Jazz Club (Metronóm Jazz Klub) keeps the groove: Dezső Oláh Trio’s Intermezzo on July 16; Fusio Group’s New Visions on August 13; and Mózes–Kaltenecker’s Sub-Rosa on September 18. András Kern and Krisztián Nyáry bring Jenő Rejtő’s Dirty Fred, the Reader (Piszkos Fred, a felolvasó) on October 21. Candlelit tributes continue with Hans Zimmer on October 7 (12,900–14,900 HUF or 34.90–40.30 USD), Vivaldi – The Four Seasons on November 19 (12,900–14,900 HUF), and Ennio Morricone by candlelight on December 12 (12,900–14,900 HUF). Film, food, movement

Between strolls and shows, grab that glass of Villány on Pirogránit nights, chase cult films in the garden cinema, dip into the Quarter’s interactive science spaces, and let the downtown-to-Zsolnay walk frame the city’s story. Make time for Pécs Third Theatre (Pécsi Harmadik Színház) runs on October 17–19, 24–26, and November 21–23 (4,500–7,000 HUF or 12.20–18.90 USD). Round it off with Mozart by Gergely Rákász (September 24; 5,990–7,990 HUF or 16.20–21.60 USD) and Zoltán Orosz 60, the virtuoso accordionist with friends (November 13; 5,990–9,990 HUF or 16.20–27.00 USD).

Pick a night walk, book a tour, fold a tile pattern, or sit back for strings by candlelight. The Zsolnay Quarter in Pécs turns summer to winter into a rolling festival of craft, memory, music, and moonlit cinema.
