Summer Highlights: Jazz, Cello, Garden Vibes

July kicks off with Felicián Kalmus’s LimonCello – Garden Party on July 9 in Pécs, a summer soirée blending virtuoso cello and outdoor ease. The Metronóm Jazz Club keeps the rhythm steady: Dezső Oláh Trio – “Intermezzo” lands July 16; Fusio Group – New Visions follows on August 13; and Mózes–Kaltenecker – Sub Rosa closes on September 18. On September 30, LIAison brings actor-singer Lia Pokorny for an intimate concert evening.

Guided Walks, Glazed Secrets, Night Strolls

Throughout July, August, and into September, themed walks unpack the Quarter’s past and Pécs’s city links. Cool-down tours rotate weekly, while “In the Footsteps of the Zsolnay Family” opens doors to their former home. “Zsolnay in Pink” offers guided tours of the Pink Zsolnay exhibition, “In the Trail of Eosin” traces the iconic iridescent glaze, and “Zsolnay and Pécs” walks connect the downtown to the Quarter. Nighttime Pyrogranite strolls light up multiple dates across summer.

Hands-On Workshops and Family Days

Creative workshops dot the weekends: “Tile Folding” sessions craft notebook covers and gift bags, “Glaze-Locked Tales” animates ceramics for kids, and “What’s Your Mandala?” invites mindful designs. Themed “Dive into Art” days return on July 18 and August 15, while the family-friendly Szamárfül Családi Fesztivál (Donkey Ear Family Festival) runs August 28–30.

Open-Air Cinema and Blockbusters

The Pyrogranite Garden Cinema serves up Az elveszett Frigyláda fosztogatói (Raiders of the Lost Ark) on July 12, A szerelem hullámhosszán (Sleepless in Seattle) on July 19, Eredet (Inception) on July 26, and Vasember (Iron Man) on August 2.

Science Camps and Starry Nights

“Science Adventure” summer camps bookend July 13–17 and July 20–24, stirring curiosity in the Quarter’s museum spaces. On August 15, a candlelit concert under the stars, The Four Seasons, is priced 6,990–10,990 HUF (about 19.10–30.00 USD).

Autumn to Winter: Theater, Talks, Stand-up

September lines up Géza 80 with Anikó Für and Róbert Hrutka, a climate-adaptation talk on summer-proof trees and perennials, Cyla’s mysterious family story, and Miklós H. Vecsei & QJÚB’s The Boy Who Turned into a Stag Shouts at the Gates of Secrets (Szarvassá változott fiú kiáltozása a titkok kapujából). October brings I Don’t Love You (Deszeretlek) — István Dombóvári’s solo show hosted by István Bellus, tickets 9,090–10,190 HUF (24.90–27.90 USD), plus Dirty Fred, the Reader (Piszkos Fred, a felolvasó).
