Tucked beneath the soaring 88-foot-high central dome of Hungary’s Parliament (Országház), the legendary Holy Crown (Szent Korona) and regal insignia sit under watchful guard day and night. Here, sixteen sculpted Hungarian monarchs, their pages by their sides and beneath golden canopies, line the lowest level, while a magnificent sixteen-rayed vaulted ceiling with colored glass floods the hall with light. With over 700,000 visitors annually, this is truly one of Europe’s must-see treasures.
What to Expect on Your Visit
Guided parliamentary tours run every day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting from the Visitor Center, taking guests on a 45-minute journey through Hungary’s most stunning government interiors. Choose between skilled guides or an audio guide, both available in Hungarian, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish. For those needing other languages, including Korean, Greek, Dutch, Arabic, or Chinese, comprehensive audio guides are also available.
On Hungary’s national holiday, the Parliament (Országház) opens its doors for a free open day: during this special event, everyone can marvel at the grand staircase, the ornate dome hall, and, of course, the Holy Crown (Szent Korona) itself, without paying a cent.
