Stunning Family Thrills Every Thursday at Tropicarium
Trained keepers with diving certifications plunge weekly into the nearly 1.4-million-liter (47 million oz), 13-foot-deep saltwater tank at 70-73°F to feed the predators, including Hungary’s only shark-tailed guitar ray. They hand-feed the beasts 26 to 33 pounds of fresh sea fish per dive. Park yourself comfortably in front of the huge glass wall, relax to pleasant tunes, and marvel at the animals’ majestic swims, twitches, and play.
Fun Fact
Shark species rarely hunt in packs, but sand tiger sharks hang out with their own kind, sometimes dozens clustering near shipwrecks or cave mouths. They gulp air at the surface, storing it in their stomachs to control buoyancy. Their looks betray them—long snouts, cold stares, and dagger-like teeth make them seem scarier than they are. People assumed they were killers, blaming them for attacks without proof, sparking hunts that wiped them out in some areas off southeastern Australia.
