Robert Wiene’s 105-year-old masterpiece, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari), flickers back to life with live piano on November 5 at START Film Club (START Filmklub), 1094 Budapest (Budapest), 15 Bokréta Street (Bokréta utca 15). A black jewel of pure German Expressionism, it’s a film-painting carved from light and stitched with shadow, still slicing into the dark anatomy of power and mass manipulation. Pianist Miklós Répászky accompanies the silent film, sharpening every sinister glance and sleepwalker’s step with a score that breathes in real time. Expressionist shadows meet living sound, turning a century-old nightmare into a present-tense experience. Admission is free, but you need to register to claim a seat.
