Fairy-Tale Theater Takes the Stage

On Monday, January 19, two performances of Ervin Lázár’s The Seven-Headed Fairy (A Hétfejű Tündér) arrive as a 60-minute musical tale by the Fellegjárók Társulat in the theater hall of the Imre Kálmán Cultural Center (Kálmán Imre Kulturális Központ). Build a Puppet Town

Puppet Story Village runs January 28–29 from 09:00 to 15:00 at the BRTK Library, children’s section (8600 Siófok, Main Square (Fő tér) 2). Each workshop lasts 1.5–2 hours, blending crafts and simple tech while participants shape the story as the village grows.

Carnival Beats and Costumes

At 10:30 and 16:30, Géza Áprily’s Here’s the Carnival, the Ball Is On (Itt a farsang, áll a bál) delivers a musical, interactive carnival show in the BRTK Library’s children’s section—free entry. Pros
+
Packed with kid-friendly shows, workshops, and beach-side winter fun, so it’s an easy win for families with mixed ages
+
Many activities are free or low-cost (library shows, costume party), stretching a U.S. tourist budget
+
Multiple dates and venues between Dec 29–Feb 8 give flexibility if you’re road-tripping Europe
+
Lake Balaton’s Great Beach adds unique winter extras—ice rink, straw maze, Ferris wheel—beyond standard holiday markets
+
Siófok is a well-known Hungarian resort town, so lodging and dining options are plentiful even off-season
+
Public transport from Budapest is straightforward (regular trains to Siófok, walk/short taxi to venues), and driving via M7 is easy
+
Compared with winter family events elsewhere in Europe, this mixes theater, hands-on crafts, and lakeside rides in one compact area - Most performances are in Hungarian; without basic language skills, story-driven shows may be hard to follow
Cons
The subject matter (Ervin Lázár, Rumini, Kisvakond passes) is beloved locally but not widely known to international visitors
Siófok is less famous to U.S. tourists than Budapest or Vienna, so it may feel “off the radar” and require extra planning
Winter weather by the lake can be cold and windy, which could limit time on outdoor attractions
