Hadart Színház brings the beloved musical fairy tale Süsü, a sárkány (Süsü, the Dragon) to life in two acts, running about 120 minutes with an intermission. Süsü, the kind one-headed dragon, is forced to leave the dragons’ realm when his fearsome three-headed father disowns him. Though people initially fear him, Süsü soon befriends a wandering Prince, and together they find a new home in the royal court. Along the way, meet the wistful Princess longing for a Prince, the caring Nanny, the perpetually shivering King, and the hapless Mercenaries. The full-scale production features a revolving grand set, a 79-inch-tall Süsü puppet approved by the original puppet-maker, and original music freshly re-orchestrated.

The Grinch tries to steal Christmas—again

Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 10:00 (Kisvakond season ticket) and 14:00 (Csimota season ticket)
Venue: Imre Kálmán Cultural Center (Kálmán Imre Művelődési Központ), Theater Hall
Pesti Művész Színház stages Grincs (The Grinch), a single-act fairy-tale comedy about a cynical, cranky green fuzzball set on stealing Christmas—until a little girl’s genuine holiday cheer turns his heart around. It’s funny, warm, and all about the true meaning of the season and the unbreakable force of optimism. Living alone in a gadget-stuffed cave on Kobak Mountain with his faithful dog Max, the Grinch only faces his neighbors in Whoville (Kifalva) when supplies run low. Every year their celebrations get bigger, brighter, and louder. When the Whos announce Christmas will be three times larger this year, the Grinch hatches a plan to ensure peace and quiet: steal the entire holiday. Disguised as Santa, he even snags a whiny reindeer to pull his sleigh. Down in Whoville, Cindy-Lou, overflowing with cheer, schemes with friends to trap Santa so she can thank him for helping her overworked mom. As Christmas nears, Cindy-Lou’s sweet plan collides head-on with the Grinch’s mischief.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly vibe all year, with kids’ theater, workshops, concerts, and holiday fun that keeps younger travelers happy
+
Ticket prices are budget-friendly by U.S. standards (about $11 adults, $9.50 kids), so you can bring the whole crew without sticker shock
+
Süsü and Grinch shows are easy crowd-pleasers for kids, with colorful sets, big puppets, and simple storylines
+
Siófok is a resort town on Lake Balaton, Hungary’s best-known vacation lake, so there’s plenty to pair with the shows (lakeside walks, cafés, winter markets)
+
Venues are centralized at the Imre Kálmán Cultural Center, making planning simple and keeping logistics tight for families
+
Easy access from Budapest by train or car (roughly 1.5–2.5 hours), with frequent MÁV trains to Siófok station and short walks/taxis to the venue
+
Compared with kids’ holiday theater in other countries, this blends local Hungarian classics (Süsü) with global favorites (Grinch), giving U.S. families a fun cultural mix
Cons
Most performances will be in Hungarian, so non-speakers may miss jokes and songs unless kids are fine following visuals and music
Siófok is famous domestically and regionally, but it’s less internationally known than Budapest or Vienna, so first-timers may need extra planning
December weather at Lake Balaton is cold and quiet; the summer buzz isn’t there, and some lakeside attractions are seasonal
Seat demand can spike around the holidays and school groups, so snagging good seats last-minute might be tricky without advance booking
