Csiky Gergely – Fényes Szabolcs: The Grandmother

Monday, December 8, 2025, 7:00 PM
Musical play in two parts
Presented by Róbert Rátonyi Theater (Rátonyi Róbert Színház) – Imre Kálmán (Kálmán Imre) season pass
Gergely Csiky’s The Grandmother (A nagymama) blends fine humor, twists, and full-bodied feeling. A young man applies as an Italian teacher at a girls’ academy; his modest manner and sound pedagogy win over the staff. Only teacher Szilárd Tódorka knows the truth: this “lamb in wolf’s clothing” is actually the young Count Szerémi, sneaking in for the sake of a student. Tódorka, his former tutor, who can’t refuse his old pupil, got him in—but now resolves to confess everything to Countess Szerémi, the young man’s grandmother. The Grandmother visits to meet the “Italian teacher,” then grills her grandson in private to learn who he’s risking all this for. Determined to help the lovers, she’s haunted by her own story: she was torn from her love and unhappy for life. Can she untangle a past mess of family knots, steer the young to each other, and grant them the happiness she was denied? That’s the heart of the play.
Cast includes: Countess Szerémi – Bori Kállay; Ernő, her grandson – Szilárd Kovács; Vilmos Örkényi, retired colonel – András Faragó; Kálmán – Sándor Barkóczi; Piroska – Dorka Pacskó; Karolin Tímár, owner of the girls’ academy – Edit Vörös; Márta – Elvira Haraszti; Szilárd Tódorka, teacher – Zoltán Kiss; Szerafina Langó, governess – Trixi Teremi; Sámuel Koszta, field chaplain – Gábor Szirtes; Mrs. Galambos – Aranka Halász; Aranka – Nikolett Csápenszki; Krisztina – Vanda Unger; Waiter – Ferenc Hábel; and the academy students.

Grinch – Pesti Művész Színház

Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM
The Grinch is a cynical, grumpy green furball bent on stealing Christmas—until a little girl’s sincere holiday spirit softens his heart. It’s funny, warm, and all about what Christmas really means and the unbreakable force of optimism. The Grinch lives alone in a gadget-stuffed cave on Kobak Mountain with his loyal dog Max, and only sees the Who-style neighbors in Whoville (Kifalva) when he runs out of food. The town’s ever-louder festivities drive him mad, and when they vow to triple Christmas this year, he opts for silence the only way he knows: steal it. He disguises himself as Santa and even snares a whiny reindeer to pull his sleigh. Meanwhile, down in Whoville (Kifalva), Cindy-Lou Who (Cindy-Lou Ki), a girl brimming with cheer, plans to trap Santa just to thank him for helping her overworked mom. As Christmas nears, her kind plan is on a collision course with the Grinch’s scheming.

Brooklyn Tale – Orlai Produkció

Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 7:00 PM
Comedy – Orlai Produkció – Imre Kálmán (Kálmán Imre) season pass
Can art make us better? Can perfection nudge sinners right? Woody Allen wrestled with that while writing at home during the pandemic lockdowns. A gangster, his family, and a stolen Raphael painting that Europe is hunting—plus a slick fence—and suddenly the masterpiece hangs in the mob boss’s den. What happens next? How does owning one of the world’s most beautiful works change each of them? With his razor eye and humor, Allen parades human pettiness and greatness in equal measure. This is a world premiere: Hungarian audiences see it first.
Cast: Máté Mészáros (Sal, mob boss); Zsuzsa Járó (Terry, his wife); Milán Schruff (Lippy Resnick, fence); Judit Cseh (Millie, Terry’s friend); Panna Dominika Bíró (Isabella, Sal’s daughter); Martin Mészáros (Vito Rienzi, Isabella’s fiancé); Lili László (Angelina, Sal’s daughter); Barnabás Rohonyi (Tony Spalone, Angelina’s fiancé); Barnabás Dékány (Andrew Chase, painter); Béla Ficzere (Vince, gangster). The Brooklyn Trio performs live: Dezső Oláh (bandleader, piano); clarinet – László Kedl / Dániel Mester / Árpád Dennert; double bass – Péter Oláh / József Radics; piano – János Egri Jr. Crew: Writer – Woody Allen; Translator – Gergely Zöldi; Set – Csörsz Khell; Costumes – Györgyi Szakács; Director’s associate – Dorka Dicső; Director – Máté Szabó; Producer – Tibor Orlai. Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes (two parts).
