September 20, 2025, marks the launch of the snow sports season across Hungary—and the action starts before a single snowflake hits the ground. Families, thrill-seekers, and the simply curious are all invited to try skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, and more, totally free of charge, at open day events on artificial slopes throughout the country. With expert instructors on hand, no previous experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and dive into the world of snow sports right in your own backyard.

Try Every Snow Sport—No Snow Required

The Snow Sports Family Day (Havas Sportok Családi Napja) is happening everywhere, from St. Stephen’s White Castle (Székesfehérvár) to Segedin (Szeged), as clubs and schools open their doors for this national open day. Whether you’re five or fifty-five, you can test your skills at skiing, snowboarding, laser biathlon, and even mini ski-jumping. Some events will feature shows by snowboarders and youth ski teams, and there will also be demonstrations of adaptive skiing and snowboarding for people with special needs. Every participant can use the provided equipment free of charge—the only thing you need is a sense of adventure.

A Place for Everyone to Learn

Behind this event is the combined effort of the Hungarian Ski Association, the Hungarian Instructors’ Association, and the Hungarian Snowboard Association, whose aim is to “show as many people as possible the beauty of snow sports, and help them find the one that fits them best.” The campaign promotes the message: “Hey-ho, skiing is fun—even without snow!” (Hejhó, síelni jó! Even when there’s no snow!). Thanks to synthetic surface slopes across Hungary, beginner lessons and group classes kick off in September, so when real snow finally covers the landscape, newcomers will already have the skills to make the most of winter.

Why Start Young?

Children as young as five can join regular weekly sessions—not only recommended as a super-fun after-school activity, but also for their enormous benefits: developing physical coordination, concentration, immune strength, and posture. Snow sports involve the whole body, provide meaningful challenges, and lay the groundwork for lifelong, rewarding experiences. But it’s not just for kids—adults and families can also discover the joy of sliding and moving on snow, guided safely and playfully by trained instructors.

Where to Catch the Action

The list of participating locations is extensive—Apex Sport Club (Apex Sportklub, Székesfehérvár), Babos Ski Club (Babos Síklub, Zugló-Csömör), Big Foot Ski School (Big Foot Síiskola, Érd), and many more, including the central celebration at Normafa Ski School (Normafa Síiskola) in Budapest. From 10 AM on September 20, all these centers will welcome newcomers to try the full range of snow sports in a friendly, hands-on environment.

Save the Date—And Don’t Miss Out!

Mark your calendars and find your nearest slope! Slide into snow sports season before real winter even starts, and turn a September Saturday into an unforgettable family day out. Organizers reserve the right to modify the program or schedule—but one thing’s for sure: this is the coolest way to warm up for winter.
