where: 8699 Somogyvámos, Gouranga tér 1

2026 brings the 31st Krishna Valley Fair (Krisna-völgyi Búcsú) to Somogyvámos from Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, turning Hungary’s best-known eco-village into a laid-back, vivid slice of India. Just half an hour from Lake Balaton, the shady groves, meadows, and lakes offer cool relief even on the hottest days. Expect three days of spiritual uplift, nature-first living, vegetarian and vegan flavors, traditional music and dance, and hands-on crafts across the valley’s scenic grounds at 8699 Somogyvámos, Gouranga Square (Gouranga tér) 1.

Step into village life

This is your chance to peek into daily life at one of Europe’s best-known eco-villages. Themed walks tour the organic farm, gardens, herb plots, and the Cow Protection Center. Ride an ox cart, hop on the mini train, try folk skill games, join craft workshops, get a henna design, and slip into a sari or dhoti for a moment. Kids and grown-ups can browse and create at the School’s Craft Workshop and Bazaar, or square off at the chaturaji board game corner.

From hemp stalk to shirt

Syama Handmade’s new hemp-processing workshop opens its doors all day, showing the full, sustainable journey from homegrown hemp to yarn, then fabric, then finished clothes. Natural dyeing and decoration techniques complete the loop, turning a factory visit into an eye-opener on circular textiles.

Stages, songs, and sacred vows

Live performances run from morning to evening. Flautist Szabolcs Kövi brings a mystical, soothing set on Saturday at 14:00, echoing the spirit of Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre but played on instruments from around the world. The Braja Renu ensemble, the Gauravani Dance Group, and students from the Krishna Valley School keep the rhythm going. A highlight both Saturday and Sunday at noon: a traditional Indian Vedic wedding with a full fire ceremony. It’s a real, sacred marriage timed for the festival, narrated so you can follow each symbol and vow in this living tradition.

Holi: throw the colors

Kick off the weekend at Friday’s Holi blast from 16:00 to 16:45. Music, dancing, and a storm of colored powders fill the air with laughter and luck. It’s the springtime festival gone global—now lighting up the valley with a friendly, free-spirited color fight. You won’t recognize yourself by the end, and that’s the fun of it.

Meet Vallabhi, breathe out

At the SpiritUp Terrace, guided meditation and relaxation sessions help you unplug. Vallabhi hosts afternoon meet-and-greets—Friday 17:00–18:00, Saturday and Sunday 16:00–17:00—and leads a daily guided meditation at 12:30, woven with verses from the Sri Isopanishad (Śrī Īśopaniṣad), designed to dip you into a calmer, deeper state. Evenings end with KirtanFest, a communal, meditative singalong led by Bhaktipada Goswami from 17:00 to 21:00.

Eat your way through Govinda

Foodies get a three-stop Govinda lineup instead of one big tent. The Govinda Restaurant serves authentic Indian menus; the Govinda Snack Bar turns out Indian street food favorites; the Govinda Buffet mixes Indian and Hungarian vegetarian dishes with fresh bakery goods and ice-cold drinks. Expect live-fire cooking demos at the Cowherds’ Kitchen, where local ingredients meet wood-fired stoves. Detailed menus go live before the event.

Rituals, walks, and quiet blessings

Beyond the weddings, you can offer incense at the Shiva shrine on the weekend—a gesture many believe protects harmonious family life and spiritual growth. Guided Mandir (temple) visits run every 20–30 minutes from 10:00 to 18:00 daily. Botanical tours explore the Isodyana Garden; edible wild plant walks, herb tours, karma-cleansing and luck-bringing walks, and special pilgrim walks for peace fill the schedule. Kundavali leads reflective nature walks on the wisdom of the natural world and the secrets of a happy life.

Crafts that make, not take

All day, makers bring old skills to life: macramé, crochet, felting, wool carding and spinning, weaving, pottery with pit firing, steel knife and copper jewelry forging, and even building a traditional tile stove. The School opens for hourly visits, and the Járgányház hosts afternoon showcases of traditional vehicles and tools. Try face painting at the Beauty Island, or step into the role of a devotee for a minute—wrap a sari or dhoti and learn a mantra.

Yoga, Ayurveda, and the mindful body

The Bhaktivedanta College presents a yoga demonstration, showcasing the discipline and knowledge behind traditional practice. Office Yoga pops up on Saturday at 11:00 on the SpiritUp Terrace—light, energizing, and desk-life friendly. Ayurveda experts offer all-day consultations at the INFO tent beside the Mandir.

Getting there and getting around

Arriving by train or intercity bus to Somogyvár? With prior arrangement, you can book transfers throughout the fair. On site, you’ll find signposted Tour Points for guided walks, plus spots to relax, refuel, and rehydrate among trees and ponds built for summer ease.

Three days, one welcoming community

Across July 17–19, Krishna Valley blends culture, nature, family fun, bold flavors, and warm hospitality. It’s a festival, a sanctuary, and a hands-on lesson in sustainable living—all at once. Slow down, soak it in, and let the valley’s peaceful rhythm do the rest.
