Sopron rolls out a packed 2026 calendar threading festivals, wine-soaked evenings, guided city walks, kids’ camps, and big-stage concerts through its historic streets and vineyard-fringed hillsides. From summer day camps and open-cellar tastings to harvest parades and a New Year’s blowout, the city’s events run all year, largely centered around the old town and the surrounding wine region. Headquarters for listings and tips sit at 9400, Szent György u. 2., but the action spills across the entire city and beyond.

Summer kicks off with camps, concerts, and cellar doors

July opens with two family-friendly staples, July 6–10: EcoHeroes – Mission for the Earth summer camp and Cloud Creative Summer Camp for ages 6–12. From July 8–12, the city hosts the 15th Szélrózsa Lutheran Youth Meeting, a major faith-and-culture gathering. On July 10, Iváncsics Cellar pairs a tasting with dinner at Sterc, while a same-day blood drive rallies locals. The pace quickens July 11: the Égő-hegy hike out to Brennbergbánya, Wine & Dine/Wetzer–Zachár Open Cellar with Zerge, a free “On the Shoulders of Giants” city walk tracing Sopron’s famous families, night karting sessions, and Culture Lab – Lenck Villa Day & Night. July 12 brings the 8th BarokkKult in Bánfalva and a costumed Toga Stroll through Sopron. July 13–17 revs up with a karting camp.

Quiz nights, films under the stars, and Celtic vibes

Mid-July leans playful: July 14, a Book Club Quiz #2 on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; July 15, a Formula 1 Quiz tied to the Hungarian Grand Prix; July 16, a DreamWorks Animation Quiz Night. Stay, sip, savor

From leafy Lőverek guesthouses and city-center pensions to family apartments near the old town, Sopron’s stays run quiet and convenient. Highlights include Adorján Guesthouse (7 rooms across two levels, for up to 32); green, pool-adjacent lodgings in Lőverek; Alpokalja Guesthouse, a 20-minute walk from the old town; pensions set 15 minutes from the center and close to hiking districts; and options by the historic Vienna Gate (Bécsi kapu) and Coronation Hill. City-center apartments sit 150 meters from the old town, with studios and family suites, full kitchens and private baths, plus safe bus parking at spots like Bianco Panzió. Hotel Civitas offers rooms from singles to family apartments with AC, safe, mini-fridge, and 24/7 reception that can line up your itinerary.
Food and drink? From Erhardt’s atmospheric dining rooms and cellars to Fehér Rózsa’s home-style plates and a pizzeria turning out three sizes in endless combos, you’re covered. Coffee Clinic pours serious espresso alongside brunch, pastries, and vegan desserts on a sunny terrace. A new beer garden keeps taps fresh. Board game fans can pick from 200-plus titles with help on rules and a wide drink list.
Wine country is never far: family wineries farm about 22.2 acres, leaning red but pouring crisp whites too. Book tastings with lunch or dinner—think oven-roasted crispy suckling pig or traditional dishes by request—plus cellar tours, business dinners, or press events. After tastings, buy favorites at cellar-door prices with panoramic views to toast Sopron’s skyline. Legend has it a Lőverek wine bar once sent ailing guests back to health; today, its 3-room, nearly 3,229-square-foot space still cures a different ache—thirst.
