Eger rolls out a full-on cultural summer from June 11 to July 19, 2026, scattering events across the city’s parks, stages, galleries, and historic sites. Expect open-air cinema, theater, big-name concerts, family shows, exhibitions, and wine everywhere you turn. It’s peak season for lounging under trees with a glass in hand, then drifting into a play, a symphonic set, or a late film under the stars.

Wine takes center stage

The 30th Eger Wine Celebration (Egri Bor Ünnepe) anchors the weekend of July 9–11 in the Archbishop’s Garden (Érsekkert). The Egri Csillag Stage (Egri Csillag Színpad) lines up live acts like Liana, Hiperkarma, Gorg & Benzol, Stereo Swing, and AWS, with Group’n’Swing and the Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning Kerekes Band bringing their unmistakable ethno-funk sound shaped by riffy flute and koboz themes. Tárkány Művek fuses folk roots with jazz, pop, and rock, fronted by cimbalom virtuoso Bálint Tárkány-Kovács and vocalists Bori Fekete and Júlia Viszkeleti.

Over at the Juhász 30 – Jubilee All-Inclusive Pavilion (July 10–11), Juhász Brothers Winery (Juhász Testvérek Pincészete) marks three decades with a two-level pavilion offering a multi-day, all-inclusive wine-and-dining escape: tastings of fine wines and sparkling, a three-course dinner, and time to celebrate with the Juhász family. Meanwhile, ZuzmÓ! returns lakeside with smoky dishes, top DJs, and two standout wineries.

If you want to go deep on terroir, the city’s tasting circuits (borkóstoló) run July 6–12 and July 13–19: 29 wine styles across 34 wineries, with 52 tasting packages to choose from. And on July 16, Eger Castle (Egri Vár) hosts a “Wine Walk” (Borséta) with Szuromi Family Estate (Szuromi Családi Birtok)—wine, legends, and sixteenth-century tales poured together inside the fortress walls.

Open-air cinema nights

Hamajdlesz Fest (Hamajdlesz Feszt, July 3–12) folds in free garden screenings: Indul a bakterház on July 10 and Mamma Mia! on July 11—cold drinks, warm nights, and easy laughs. On July 11, the Ottoman Tent (Oszmán Sátor) turns retro with Grease: rugs on the ground, snacks, chilled drinks, and a dress-code nod to the 1950s—Pink Ladies, T-Birds, or any vintage look, with a prize for best costume. The party spins rock ’n’ roll classics till midnight.

Multiplex fans can slip into Agria Park’s cinema all month for fresh premieres and a full snack bar.

Stages buzzing: theater and symphony

The Hamajdlesz Theater Association (Hamajdlesz Színházi Egyesület) brings Ferenc Molnár’s comedy The Play at the Castle (Játék a kastélyban) on July 10, the children’s favorite Mattie the Goose-boy (Lúdas Matyi) on July 10 and 12, the folk tale The Rátót Fool’s Egg (Rátóti csikótojás) on July 11, and Édes Anna on July 11—a stark, modern staging on vulnerability, loneliness, and the absence of love. On July 12, Pustol a hó, avagy könnyű neked Szarvas Józsi turns a 2018 life-story book into a stage evening.

Michael Cooney’s Who’s in My House?! (Nicsak, ki lakik itt?!), a madcap two-act farce, lands July 17 at the Márai Center (Márai Központ), with tickets at $24.40. From July 17 to August 20, ArtEgerFeszt fires up as one of Eger’s liveliest theater streaks, powered by local pros and guest stars from across Hungarian stages.

Classics meet greenery on July 11 at Evergreens in the Green (Örökzöldek a zöldben): the Eger Symphony Orchestra (Egri Szimfonikus Zenekar) performs favorites by Rossini, Berlioz, Verdi, Offenbach, Tchaikovsky, Khachaturian, and J. Strauss, conducted by Máté Szabó Sipos. And the Basilica’s organ resonates every Friday and Saturday at 12:00 and Sundays at 12:45, with 20–30-minute programs of J. S. Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Dubois, and Vierne. Tickets are $5.50 from the Basilica Visitor Center.

Walks, wellness, and workouts

Two guided city walks, July 11 and 18, trace Eger’s history and main sights in 90 minutes. For something cheeky, the themed tour Dangerous Liaisons in Eger (Veszedelmes viszonyok Egerben) starts at 5:30 p.m. on July 11 in the park outside the Turkish Bath—expect spicy stories and a dash of relationship advice from the walk’s “heroes.” Fitness lovers score a double: the Pölöskei Beach Health and Sports Festival (Pölöskei Strand Egészség- és Sportfesztivál) returns July 11 with top trainer Balázs Czanik, and on July 16, a candlelit hatha yoga session and stargazing set the tone on the Imola Hotel Platán terrace. July 19 blends a yoga class, sound-bowl relaxation, and paint-your-own ceramic mug.

Markets, makers, motors

The Farmers’ and Artisan Market (Termelői Piac és Kézműves Vásár) brings summer flavors and crafts on July 11 at Katona Square, while the Antiques Market (Régiségvásár) on July 19 unfurls antiques, books, porcelain, paintings, and secret treasures across the historic center. Families slide into the miniMarket baby-mom design fair on July 19 (10:00–17:00). Car buffs get their fix July 9–11 at the 11th Rolling History (Gurul a Múlt) vintage vehicle exhibition and meet-up in the picturesque Lajos Szmrecsányi Garden (Szmrecsányi Lajos Kert)—perfectly timed to pair chrome with a glass of Egri.

Exhibitions all over town

Art runs rich: Best of Diploma 2026 showcases standout graduation works from Eszterházy Károly Catholic University’s Faculty of Arts (July 8–12 and July 15–19). Fading Reality (Derengő valóság), a memorial to painter Ernő Nagy, shows at the István Dobó Castle Museum’s Sándor Ziffer Gallery (Dobó István Vármúzeum, Ziffer Sándor Galéria) July 7–12 and July 14–19. Existence (Létezés) gathers 41 artists across painting, graphics, sculpture, and ceramics at Agria Park (July 6–12 and July 13–19). The Dobó28 space reopens with Erzsébet F. Balogh’s exhibition and an open studio (July 6–12 and July 13–19).

The traveling show Life Is Sacred (Az élet szent) honors Saint Gianna Beretta Molla in the Basilica (July 6–12 and July 13–19). The Eger Stitchers Embroidery Circle (Egri Öltögető Hímzőszakkör) closes its season with embroidery at the Pál Tittel Library (Tittel Pál Könyvtár) July 6–10 and July 13–17. Photography fans can catch the 25th International Hungarian Photo Salon, Upper Hungary Region (XXV. Nemzetközi Magyar Fotószalon, Felvidéki Régió) exhibition free through July 16 at Agria Park.

Big nights out

Rock history storms the open-air stage in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman (Szépasszony-völgy) on July 18 with OSSIAN 40: gates at 19:00, show at 20:30. And on July 10, Manooka Café celebrates its 8th birthday with a family-friendly afternoon party. To round it all off, football fever runs June 12–July 19 in the Fan Zone on Végvári Vitézek Square—shared screens, shared shouts, and that big-game buzz, Eger-style.

Eger in high summer? Sip, stroll, listen, watch, dance, and let the city do the rest.
