Sunday Pilgrimage: Liliomkert Market Beckons

Discover Liliomkert Market in Káptalantóti: Sunday artisan foods, local wines, crafts, and antiques in the scenic Káli Basin. Meet makers, taste freely, shop fresh, arrive early.
when: 2025.11.02., Sunday
where: 8283 Káptalantóti, Petőfi u. 1.

Káptalantóti’s Liliomkert Market throws open its gates every Sunday, drawing newcomers and loyal regulars to one of the prettiest corners of the Balaton Uplands, the Káli Basin. Dreamed up and built by biologist-engineer Ildikó Harmathy after a simple friendly chat, it has grown into a beloved meeting point where producers and shoppers happily travel from afar just to be here. Arrive hungry: weaving between stalls, it’s impossible not to nibble your way through baskets of crackling-and-cheese pogácsa, piles of caraway crescents, and oven-hot sour cream lángos steaming from the hearth.

When and Where

Open year-round, every Sunday from 7:00 to 14:00, at 8283 Káptalantóti, Petőfi St. 1 (Petőfi u. 1). Next market day: 2025.11.02. Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Face-to-Face with Makers

The charm here is personal. Producers and artisans staff their own tables, chat, pour tastings, and send you home with fresh, quality goods sourced right from the people who made them. It’s a handshake economy with eye contact and zero pretense.

What to Buy (and Taste)

– Foods: farmhouse cheeses, fresh cracklings, ham, syrups, preserves, fresh and dried fruits, homemade breads and pastries, cakes, and rétes in many flavors.
– Drinks: homemade syrups, pálinka, and local wines.
– Crafts: woodcarvings, handmade ornaments, lavender- and rose-accented white ceramics, one-of-a-kind gifts.
– Antiques: vintage objects, books, and curios you didn’t know you needed.

Insider Tips

Mornings get busy—expect a crowd, especially before noon. Bring cash; not every vendor accepts cards. And yes, tasting is part of the ritual.
