2025.11.16. (Sunday), 8283, Petőfi St. 1., Káptalantóti
Every Sunday, the Liliomkert Market in the Káli Basin throws open its gates and draws in regulars and first-timers from far and wide. Set in one of the prettiest corners of the Balaton Uplands, this now nationally famed market sprang from the vision of biologist-engineer Ildikó Harmathy—and from one simple, friendly chat that snowballed into a community ritual.
Arrive hungry. Resisting is futile as you drift between producers’ tables, tasting your way through crackling-topped, cheesy pogácsa, aromatic caraway crescents, and oven-hot sour-cream lángos steaming like a siren call. It’s an experience as much as a shop: you meet the makers, swap stories, and buy straight from the source.
When, where, how
Open year-round, every Sunday, 7:00–14:00. The address is Petőfi St. 1., Káptalantóti. The place gets seriously busy, especially in the late morning, so early birds get the parking and the best bakes.
What to taste and take home
– Food: farmhouse cheeses, fresh cracklings, ham, syrups, preserves, fresh and dried fruits, rustic breads and pastries, cakes, and rétes in multiple flavors.
– Drinks: homemade syrups, pálinka, and local wines.
– Crafts: woodcarvings, handmade ornaments, white ceramics with lavender and rose motifs, and one-of-a-kind gifts.
– Antiques: vintage objects, books, and curiosities with stories baked in.
Good to know
Bring cash—card terminals are hit-or-miss at individual stalls. Expect a crowd; that’s what happens when a market becomes a meeting place for the region’s producers and its devoted buyers. The charm lies in the face-to-face: sample freely, ask questions, and leave with baskets full and Sunday sorted.
