The Hungarian Open Water Swimming Championship is back for its fifth year, allowing swimmers—whether first-timers or pros—to explore the country’s scenic wonders from the water. On July 12, hundreds of participants will dive in at the Postman’s Beach (Postás strand) in Szentendre, embarking on a 5.29-mile (8.52-kilometer) journey down the mighty Danube (Duna).
A Challenge for All
The course finishes at the Tadpole Snack Bar (Ebihal büfé), right across from Swan Island (Lupa-sziget). But it’s less about medals than the joy of the swim: thanks to the current, even those who simply want to float, marvel at the view, or take it easy can reach the finish within an hour, in water that’s a balmy 73.4°F (23°C).
Scenic Adventure
This event promises unforgettable memories—not just for die-hard athletes, but for anyone looking to celebrate Hungary’s beautiful riverside in the summer.
