May: Theater, film legends, and wine festivities

The month kicks off with Alice in Wonderland at the IH Event Center on May 5, and the Botanical Garden marks Birds and Trees Week in two waves, May 4–8 and May 11–15. Mamma Mia! lands at Pick Arena on May 10 with tickets from $27 to $54. On the same day, the Szeged Synagogue opens photographer Iván Benda’s exhibition My Father’s Last Message. The National Theatre of Szeged (Szegedi Nemzeti Színház) runs performances May 2–10, 11–17, 18–23, and 26–31, with tickets from $8 to $80.

On May 12, journalist and war correspondent Tvrtko presents Chernobyl 40, an exclusive talk at IH (tickets $20–$21). Organ concerts glow inside the Synagogue: organist László Csanádi on May 24 and Anasztázia Bednarik on May 25. Charlie plays July 22, then Cinefonic brings a film-music spectacular to Dóm Square on July 24, with seats from $17 to $61. The 36th THEALTER International Theatre Festival runs July 24–Aug 1 for boundary-pushing stage work. August: Wicked weeks and jazz nights

Singer Petra Gubik headlines Újszeged on Aug 5 ($19–$28), then the Dixieland Gala swings in on Aug 12 ($18–$23). American Comedy hits Aug 14–15 (tickets $27–$41). Broadway arrives as Wicked lights up Dóm Square Aug 14–16 and again Aug 20–22, with tickets from $19 to $80.
