The format is hands-on, reflective, and community-driven, focusing on patterns in our closest relationships and the narratives that shape them.

How to Join

Participation requires an advance application and an interview; if the group is full, a waitlist is available. The workshop fee is $15.30 per person, per session. Application deadline: August 22, 2025.

What to Expect

Under the banner Parables—My Relationships in the Light of Jesus’s Parables, the group examines everyday conflicts, forgiveness, boundaries, and belonging through stories that invite both quiet introspection and practical change. Limited spots ensure depth, safety, and continuity throughout the full program in Szeged.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe for teens and adults who can sit with reflective discussion, with a gentle, community feel rather than anything intense
+
Topic is universally relatable—relationships, forgiveness, and boundaries resonate even if you’re not religious
+
Led by a specialist in therapeutic storytelling, so you’re likely to get thoughtful, well-structured sessions
+
Very affordable at about $15 per session, rare for a months-long personal-growth program in Europe
+
Szeged is a pleasant, safe university town with cafes and culture, good for combining with a weekend getaway
+
Easy enough to reach from Budapest by train (about 2–2.5 hours) and walk or bus to the Lower Town parish; driving is straightforward with parking options
+
Distinct from typical tourist activities—more meaningful than a one-off museum stop, and comparable in depth to retreat-style workshops in the U.S. but at a fraction of the price
Cons
Not ideal for younger kids; it’s talk-based and spans nine months, so families on short trips won’t get the full value
The theme (Jesus’s parables) is less globally mainstream than generic mindfulness, which may feel niche to some visitors
Szeged is less internationally famous than Budapest, so fewer English-language tourist services and less name recognition
Likely Hungarian-language sessions; without Hungarian, you’d need to confirm English support or skip it
