Step into a sealed-off industrial time capsule with “The Factory Is Yours!”, a compact, easier spin on the hit Túrajó walk “Csúcs volt Inotán” (Inota Was at Its Peak). This tour zeroes in on the Inota Power Plant’s ground-floor highlights: the cavernous boiler house, the lower level of the turbine hall, the commanding control room, and a peek inside one of the iconic cooling towers. “No entry”? With us, it’s fine.
Blockbuster Backdrops and Socialist Echoes
Built under the first five-year plan, this once-bustling industrial city now lies abandoned, crumbling, and closed to the public—except on this route. You’ll step into the very boiler house where Ryan Gosling roamed in Blade Runner 2049, and you’ll gaze at the control room that staged a rocket launch in Lajkó – Cigány az űrben (Lajkó – Gypsy in Space). Then it’s into a cooling tower for that goosebump-inducing industrial cathedral vibe.
The walk brings the recent past to life: where local comrades soaked in their favorite thermal baths, who lived in the standby housing estate thrown up next to the plant, and what “prosperity” looked like under the Kádár era. Retro aesthetics, exotic film locations, unique adventure? Come on in.
What’s In, What’s Out
This is the streamlined sibling of “Csúcs volt Inotán,” focusing only on key power plant structures. You will not enter the Béke Cultural House on this tour. That storied venue gets the full, floor-to-ceiling treatment on Túrajó’s “Erőművészet” (Power Plant Art) walk, and it’s still featured on the popular “Csúcs volt Inotán” route.
