Thematic guided tours at Budapest’s Museum of Fine Arts offer a hands-on window into Ancient Egypt, tied to the first volume of the museum’s Ages in the Museum series. Through the Egyptian Collection’s artifacts, visitors dive into a civilization that flourished for millennia—up close and personal.
“Kezet rá!”: Hold history in your hands
Hungary’s first Kezet rá! (“Shake on it!”) program has welcomed ancient Egypt fans since 2010. In the Egyptian Secrets Chamber, trained museum volunteers guide you as you examine thousands-of-years-old objects directly in your hands. Sessions run Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings (except the third Saturday), with a valid ticket; no registration needed. Note: the program may be canceled without notice. Upcoming extended sessions: November 23, 2025, 10:15–13:15, and November 30, 2025, 10:15–13:15, at the Museum of Fine Arts, 1146 Budapest, Dózsa György Road (Dózsa György út) 41.
“Scarab Files”: Egypt’s hidden face
From September 20, 2025, refreshed thematic tours animate the Egyptian Collection. Next date: November 22, 2025, 15:00–16:00. Across ten interactive themes, guides explore everyday and sacred life: how Egyptians honored gods in temples and at home; the worries, fears, and fixes that shaped their days; what they ate and drank; how schooling and justice worked; views on gender, love, and family; and the tricks they used to keep illness at bay—and the remedies when it struck.
