The old stadium served Hungarian football for over 100 years, hosting historic matches. The new arena, opened in 2016, carries that legacy into the future with a capacity of 5,322. It’s named after Nándor Hidegkuti, MTK’s legendary striker and key player in Hungary’s Golden Team, which won silver at the 1954 FIFA World Cup and beat England in the 1953 “Match of the Century” at Wembley—he wore number 9. Three other MTK players were on that squad. The opening match replayed the 1964 European Cup Winners’ Cup final against Sporting Clube de Portugal.

MTK Budapest, the blue-whites, has inspired fans for over a century with 23 league titles and 12 Hungarian Cups, making it the second most successful club all-time. The club has always been based in central Budapest, and the 2016 arena replaced century-old structures. Its pitch was the first in Central and Eastern Europe with hybrid GrassMaster “Desso” grass, like Anfield, Old Trafford, and San Siro. The lighting features 214 custom Schréder-Tungsram LED lamps—among the world’s first to pair LED with hybrid turf, alongside Arsenal’s Emirates. Two levels on each side hold 33 skyboxes for match days and business events, each seating 10–12. It’s a UEFA Category 3 venue, perfect for youth and women’s internationals, and Champions League/Europa League qualifiers.
