The Pálinka Festival in Velence returns from May 6–8, 2026, tied to the National Pálinka and Pomace Pálinka Competition. For three days, visitors can dive into tastings, demos, and culinary surprises across multiple venues in the 2481 area. The program caters to the public with themed flights, food pairings, and community events, all celebrating Hungary’s fruit brandy heritage and the craft behind it.

Stay, Relax, Recharge

Whether you want peace by the lake or an active getaway, you’ll find it here. Two air-conditioned apartments are available, and the in-house Experience Center rolls out family-friendly programs: yoga classes, massages, puppet theater, workshops, and more. Sport Hotel Velence promises calm and comfort, with interiors designed for quality simplicity so that the sweeping view of Lake Velence (Velencei-tó) and the hotel’s tree-filled park takes center stage.

Eat Well, Any Season

Tekergő Restaurant and Motel (Tekergő Étterem és Motel) sits by the M7 motorway (mile 45–46), embraced by the always beautiful Lake Velence (Velencei-tó). The restaurant serves up to 50 guests in winter and 120 in summer, welcoming cyclists and dogs year-round. Another favorite sits at the foot of Bence Hill (Bence-hegy) on the edge of Velence, heading toward Nadap and Lovasberény: a restaurant with 14 guest rooms, where ground-floor dining and outdoor booths are open even without reservations.

Grill, Brunch, and 60+ Wines

Expect serious charcoal-grilled steaks, fish, cheeses, and vegetables; one of Hungary’s best hamburgers; crisp salads; and a broad vegetarian selection. House-made desserts pair with specialty coffee, craft beers, and more than 60 wines. A weekly seasonal chalkboard menu keeps things fresh, and Sundays bring a dedicated brunch lineup.

Raise a Glass with Tradition

Founded in 1993 with 13 members, the Saint Benedict Wine Order (Szent Benedictus Borrend) champions the region’s signature grape varieties and quality-first winemaking. By reviving old customs and forging new ones, the order aims to introduce wider audiences to the area’s stunning landscape and outstanding wines—an ideal complement to pálinka’s diverse styles and origins.

Event dates: Wednesday to Friday, May 6–8, 2026. Multiple locations in and around Velence. Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs.

Pros
+
Family-friendly extras make it easy to bring kids—puppet theater, workshops, yoga, lakeside park space, and a calm hotel vibe
+
Low-stress food and drink scene beyond pálinka—grill, brunch, vegetarian options, desserts, craft beer, and 60+ wines for non-spirit drinkers
+
Pálinka is a big deal in Hungary, so you’re getting an authentic, deep-dive tasting tied to a national competition
+
Velence and Lake Velence are a scenic, chill alternative to Budapest—great views, cycling paths, and lakeside hangouts
+
Easy access from Budapest by car via the M7 motorway; restaurants even sit right off mile 45–46
+
Public transport is doable: frequent trains from Budapest to Velence/Venekei stations plus short local rides or walks
+
Lodging on-site or nearby (hotel, motel, apartments) keeps logistics simple for multi-day festival hopping - Pálinka (strong fruit brandy) isn’t widely known in the U.S., and high-proof tastings may not suit everyone
Cons
Velence is less famous than Budapest or Lake Balaton, so first-timers may need extra planning and research
Hungarian helps—English is common in tourism, but signage, menus, and small vendor chats may lean Hungarian
Weekday dates (Wed–Fri, May 6–8, 2026) can be tricky for travelers and can limit big-festival energy compared to weekend events
