Verbunk Day returns to Sóstó Museum Village (Sóstói Múzeumfalu) in Nyíregyháza on September 27, 2025, bringing together vibrant variations of this legendary Hungarian dance from the Hajdúság, Bodrogköz, and Szatmár-Nyírség regions. Everyone is invited to dive into the quirky atmosphere of these traditional “recruitment” dances and actually learn the basic, easy-to-master moves that make verbunk such a blast.
Non-Stop Dancing, Laughter, and Music
Events run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., starting with “FORDÍTS A RÉZHÚRRA”—a stirring showcase of the region’s best verbunk styles. Next up is “Tréfás Verbuválás,” where dancers invite the crowd to join in some fun recruiting games. At 5:45, “Van Még Benne” turns the spotlight on Lajos Murguly (Murguly Lajos), as memories and stories take the stage. The afterparty? “IDE NÉZZ A FIGURÁRA,” a dazzling gala of verbunk and csárdás featuring top folk ensembles.
Folk Stars Take Over
Troupes from Nyíregyháza, Mátészalka, Sárospatak, Nagyecsed, and Debrecen, along with lively tunes by SZIKES Band, promise a fantastic celebration of Carpathian tradition for just about $2.70 entry. Schedules might change, but the fun won’t!
