A sparkling farce lands in Veresegyház: Georges Feydeau’s Cat Music storms the Veres 1 Színház on January 26, 2026, at 7:00 PM (Dániel pass), and returns on March 8, 2026, at 7:00 PM (Sejtes pass). Venue: 2112 Veresegyház, Köves utca 14. The Orlai Productions guest performance runs 2 hours 30 minutes with one intermission. Organizers reserve the right to change the time and program.

The setup: an opera, a tenor… and a disaster

Over a tranquil lunch, sugar magnate Pacarel declares he’ll hire an opera singer to perform his daughter’s opera at the Paris Opera—her new Faust. Then comes the glorious mix-up: instead of a famed tenor, he signs a young man just starting law school. The aspiring lawyer can’t sing a note. Cue a hurricane of flirtations and crossed wires: nobody knows who loves whom, who courts whom, or why the law student keeps being forced to sing, everywhere, all the time.

Feydeau’s world of vanity and blind ambition

The master of dazzling farce cranks every conflict to the limit. The characters are ambitious and selfish, their vision clouded by ego—vanity steamrolls reality, and the comedy detonates from there.

Pros
+
Family-friendly farce with slapstick mix-ups and clear intermission, easy for teens and adults to enjoy together
+
Feydeau is a classic of French comedy, so the theme of mistaken identities is internationally familiar even if you’ve never seen this play
+
Orlai Productions is a respected Hungarian company, promising polished acting and staging
+
Veresegyház is a calm, suburban town near Budapest, so you can pair the show with a day in the capital
+
Likely affordable compared with big-city theater, making it a low-risk cultural night out
+
2.5-hour runtime with intermission fits dinner-and-a-show plans
+
Easy to reach from Budapest by suburban train (S71/Z70 to Veresegyház) or by car via M3, with short local taxi/walk to Köves utca 14 - Hungarian-language performance means non-Hungarian speakers may miss many jokes without surtitles
Cons
Veresegyház itself isn’t a well-known destination for foreign tourists, so less surrounding buzz or English signage
Smaller venue and limited dates (Jan 26 and Mar 8, 2026) could sell out and leave little flexibility
Compared to Paris/London/NYC farce productions, you won’t get English-language star power or large-scale production values, though the intimacy can be a plus
