Mézesvölgyi Nyár, Pest County’s biggest cross-arts open-air festival, returns to Veresegyház from June through August 2026 with crowd-pleasing hits, major stage names, concerts, and family shows under the stars at Búcsú tér. From classic comedies and fresh West End fare to evergreen Hungarian musicals and living legends of pop, it’s three months of warm nights, big laughs, and singalongs.

June Kickoff: Charlie Live

2026.06.21. Charlie concert — Horváth Charlie, the unmistakable titan of Hungarian pop, lights up the Mézesvölgyi Nyár stage with a smoky blend of blues, swaggering jazz, and rock tailor-made for Veresegyház evenings. Expect timeless anthems—from Jég dupla jéggel to Nézz az ég felé—sung in unison by generations of fans.

July Opens With Farce and Firepower

2026.07.03. Neil Simon: Pletykafészek (Rumors) — A two-act farce to sit back and relish as gossip ricochets through the lives of the upper crust, whose unintended mishaps multiply into delicious chaos.
2026.07.07. László Dés – Péter Geszti – Krisztián Grecsó: A Pál utcai fiúk (The Paul Street Boys) — This musical take reframes the classic not with children, but with young adults locked in conflict. The stakes feel sharper, amped up by contemporary sounds and lyrics. Acoustic objects, rhythmic invention, and the performers’ musicality propel the drama, while the original’s cathartic message lands with full force.
2026.07.08. A Pál utcai fiúk (The Paul Street Boys) — The same beloved piece returns the next night as a two-act musical, again leaning into live acoustic textures, youthful energy, humor, and the raw punch of the source material’s finale.
2026.07.12. A dzsungel könyve (The Jungle Book) — Mowgli, the boy raised by the forest, fights his enemies and searches for happiness among the deep green leaves and his new family. A can’t-miss heart-squeezer and heart-warmer about friendship and love, perfect for children and the young at heart.
2026.07.15. Jeanie Linders: Menopauza (Menopause The Musical) — The universal turning point in every woman’s life gets the full, loud, candid, and uproariously funny treatment. Some hide it, others crack jokes—this global hit celebrates the change with honesty and humor.
2026.07.19. Péter Geszti concert — The frontman of positive energy detonates a summer set stuffed with stadium-rattling Rapülők dance bangers, Jazz+Az funk grooves, Gringó Sztár cuts, and Létvágy pop treats. Expect live power, flashy stage tech, sharp wit, and straight-talking lyrics.
2026.07.22. Csengetett, Mylord? (You Rang, M’Lord?) — World premiere. Lord Meldrum, a widower, lives the 1920s London high life with his brother, mother-in-law, and two daughters, while the cook, footman, butler, and chambermaid downstairs are every bit as colorful as the upstairs aristocrats. After the beloved TV comedy of upstairs vs. downstairs, the stage version lands with those now-cult characters chasing their favorite passions—be it money or skirts.
2026.07.26. Steven Moffat: Rém Rendes Vendég (The Unfriend) — Two polite Brits, Peter and Debbie, befriend American widow Elsa on a cruise, swap addresses, and promise to keep in touch—promises that usually fade. Not this time. Elsa rings the bell one day—just as some terrifying internet intel makes the couple panic, especially with two teenagers at home. They can’t be rude—but can they be safe? An interfering neighbor and a police sergeant stir the pot in this riotous two-act comedy, fresh from the West End and now at Budapest’s Játékszín—before popping up here in Veresegyház.
2026.07.28. Ne most, drágám! (Not Now, Darling) — A fur-salon farce full of love triangles, mink coats, scantily clad surprises, clothing flying out of windows, and all-out bedlam—set in London’s most elegant boutique, purely for carefree fun.

August Thrillers, Romance, and Returns

2026.08.05. Az Ackroyd-gyilkosság (The Murder of Roger Ackroyd) — Hercule Poirot retires to the drowsy estate of King’s Abbott, only for two baffling deaths to shatter the calm. Artúr Kálid steps in as Poirot, with Szilveszter Szabó P. as Dr. James Sheppard, in a gripping Agatha Christie classic.
2026.08.07. Anconai szerelmesek — A musical comedy phenomenon: for twenty years, one of Hungary’s most-played stage romps. It blends the best of Italian commedia flair with Hungarian humor and the most beloved Italian hits of the ’70s.
2026.08.11. Anconai szerelmesek a Balatonon — Two decades after miraculous reunions and a flurry of marriages, our Italian troupe reunites in the warm, wonder-seeking summer of 1989. With paunches, silver streaks, and teenage kids in tow, they head to Hungary for roots, rekindled loves, peace, and happiness—generously aided by Békés, the head of the Balaton SZOT resort. The bel canto keeps soaring: Azzurro, Bella Ciao, Sono un italiano…
2026.08.15. Egy életem — biographical stand-up with Imre Csuja. He tells his life as we know him: modestly, hilariously, and with warmth. Childhood under his mother’s “direction,” first years onstage, days playing four performances, lessons from the theatre’s greats, and how he met his wife over 40 years ago. Plus behind-the-scenes tales from cult films Üvegtigris (Glass Tiger) and Valami Amerika (A Kind of America).
2026.08.18. Túl a Maszat-hegyen? (Beyond Smudge Mountain?) — In a world where smudge is order and cleaning is chaos, Andris Muhi launches a rescue mission from the realm of splotches, dusters, and ruthless neat freaks. A colorful, magical, earworm-laced journey for kids and grown-ups, where play, imagination, and laughter rule—and even vacuum cleaners don’t always pick the right side.
2026.08.29. Nem rongyos élet – újravarrva | Operetta Gala — Promise made last year, overdelivered this year. After that unforgettable evening when drama heavyweights and operetta stars danced the csárdás together at Mézesvölgyi Nyár, the cream of the Hungarian stage returns. New faces, old favorites, all proving that Hungarian operetta—a true Hungarikum—belongs to everyone.

Program and dates subject to change by the organizers. All events at 2112 Veresegyház, Búcsú tér.

Pros
+
Great for families: plenty of kid-friendly shows (The Jungle Book, Beyond Smudge Mountain) plus light comedies adults will enjoy together
+
Low language barrier for music nights and concerts; even theater pieces with English roots (Rumors, The Unfriend, Not Now, Darling, Poirot) are easy to follow if you know the stories
+
Location near Budapest (Veresegyház, Pest County) is an easy day trip for tourists
+
Public transport is straightforward via Budapest suburban trains/buses; driving is simple and parking is typically manageable at Búcsú tér
+
Summer timing (June–August 2026) fits peak U.S. vacation season, with warm evenings and open-air vibes
+
Mix of internationally known themes (Agatha Christie, West End comedies) and Hungarian pop/operetta gives you a “local culture sampler” in one place
+
Compared with similar summer theatre festivals abroad, it’s cheaper, more intimate, and less crowded than London/NYC outdoor series
Cons
Many shows are in Hungarian; punchlines/nuance in farces and musicals can be missed without the language
Veresegyház isn’t widely known to foreign visitors, so you’ll find fewer English-friendly signs/services than in central Budapest
Headliners like Charlie and Péter Geszti are huge locally but not internationally famous, so the “must-see” factor may feel lower to U.S. travelers
Weather-dependent outdoor seating; heat or summer storms can affect comfort and schedules (program subject to change)
