Veszprém’s Archdiocese maps out a lively 2026 with exhibitions, concerts, family and kids’ programs, guided tours, thematic walks, popular science talks, red-letter-day and holiday gatherings, plus a string of church events across multiple venues in the 8200 postcode. From marriage prep courses and kids’ Bible role-play to an outdoor Passion play winding through the Séd Valley, the calendar blends tradition, culture, and community time with something for every age group.
Marriage Prep Fridays at Padányi
The popular Jegyeskurzus marriage preparation course returns at Padányi School (Veszprém, Szeghlety J. Street 6) on several Fridays: February 20, February 27, March 6, and March 13, 2026. The course helps couples prepare for marriage and family life with straight-talking themes: the spirituality of marriage; the family we come from; relationship communication and conflict management; intimacy in marriage; differences between men and women and the pitfalls of marriage; and parenting and family life. Sessions are held in Veszprém, with a warm, practical approach designed for real life together.
Wine Tasting for Couples
On February 11, 2026 at 18:00, couples are invited to a special evening in the Marriage Week (Házasság Hete) program series: a paired wine tasting at the elegant, cozy Gizella Hotel and Restaurant (Veszprém, Jókai Mór Street 48). Entry is free, but registration is required due to limited seating. The Archdiocese of Veszprém opens its curated cellar to help couples step out of the daily rush and reconnect over a glass, leaning into conversation and the harmony of flavors. It’s about shared time, mutual attention, and a little festive sparkle in a refined setting.
Bible Role-Play for Kids
A recurring series invites children aged 7–10 to a Bible role-playing program that builds social skills and emotional intelligence through story, character, and play. Events take place in Veszprém at the Archdiocesan Office’s Gizella Hall (8200 Veszprém, Jutasi Road 18/2). Sunday dates for spring 2026: February 15, March 1, March 15, March 29, April 12, and April 26. The sessions keep faith and friendship hand in hand, gently guiding kids through teamwork, empathy, and imagination with Bible scenes as their stage.
Adam Play and Palm Sunday Live Passion
Veszprém brings the core mystery of Christian faith to life with an immersive, open-air Live Passion on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 15:00. The path winds through some of the city’s most iconic backdrops in the Séd stream valley, past the Margaret Ruins (Margit romok), and up to Benedict Hill (Benedek-hegy). The Passion invites participants to walk, watch, and be moved by the story of Jesus Christ’s suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection as it threads through landscape and memory.
This year adds a powerful new prologue: on Saturday, March 28 at 19:00, the ancient French mystery play The Adam Play (Ádám-játék) will be performed for the first time within the walls of the Margaret Ruins (Margit romok). One of Europe’s earliest known dramas—contemporary with the Old Hungarian Funeral Sermon—it dramatizes the Fall: the tempter overcomes the first human pair, yet amid punishment comes the promise of the Redeemer’s arrival, a word of hope echoing through our human condition. All are warmly welcomed on March 29 at 15:00 for the Live Passion, and the evening before at 19:00 for the Adam Play premiere.
Spring Dates to Note
The kids’ Bible role-play returns on March 29, April 12, and April 26 at the Gizella Hall in Veszprém, same venue and format, keeping the Sunday rhythm and the playful, skill-building flow. Families can plan around these steady anchors while dipping into other concerts and talks as spring opens up the cultural calendar.
Organ and Concert Highlights
The archdiocesan music program promises standout moments. On April 15, 2026, organ virtuoso Martin Baker performs a joint concert with organist Tamás Kéméndi—an evening poised to pair British improvisational brilliance with Hungarian tonal color and liturgical fire. Then on May 28, 2026, János Pálúr presents Creation Story (Teremtéstörténet), tracing the arc from Genesis into sound: expect a thoughtful, crafted program that moves from darkness to light, order to beauty, with organ textures that feel both architectural and alive.
