A packed calendar from the Archdiocese of Veszprém is set to light up late November and December with exhibitions, concerts, family and kids’ activities, guided tours, themed walks, talks, red-letter-day and festive programs, plus key church events across several venues and towns. Registration may be required for certain programs, and schedules can change, so keep an eye out for updates.

Nov 27: Mindszenty, From Palace to Prison

On November 27, the Archdiocese marks the day of Archbishop József Mindszenty’s arrest with a free but registration-only tour through the Veszprém Court building into the Castle Prison. Participants get an in-depth look at the Devictus Vincit chamber exhibition recalling Mindszenty’s captivity. Archivist Tibor László Varga from the Archdiocesan Archives leads the walk. Meeting point: 3:30 p.m. in front of the Veszprém Court, Vár Street (Vár utca) 19. The tour ends at the Castle Prison Visitor Center, the Ruttner House.

Nov 29–30: Themed Castle Walks

Saturday–Sunday guided castle walks run at 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Two themes anchor the weekend:
– The Walk of Light and Devotion: Archbishop’s Palace + Gizella Chapel at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
– A Thousand Years’ Path: Cathedral + crypt + St. George’s Chapel at 2:00 p.m.

Dec 6–7: Baroque Jewel Launch Point

On December 6 and 7, the same timed walks return: 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. Tours depart from the Biró–Giczey House, the Baroque jewel box of the Veszprém Castle District, complete with garden, gift shop, and exhibitions. Themes:
– The Walk of Light and Devotion (Archbishop’s Palace + Gizella Chapel), 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
– A Thousand Years’ Path (Cathedral + crypt + St. George’s Chapel), 2:00 p.m.

Dec 13–14: Weekend Deep Dives

Guided castle walks again at 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., departing from the Biró–Giczey House with the same two themes and times as above.

Dec 20–21: Advent Momentum

The final Advent weekend keeps the rhythm: 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. from the Biró–Giczey House, with the Light and Devotion route at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and the Thousand Years’ route at 2:00 p.m.

Dec 27–28: Festive Finale

Post-Christmas, the schedule holds steady: 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. from the Biró–Giczey House, same thematic breakdown.

Dec 27: Festive Harmonies Concert

Wrap the season with Ünnepi harmóniák (Festive Harmonies), featuring Ádám Tabajdi, István Horváth, and the Harmónia Chamber Ensemble in concert on December 27.
