The work follows a little girl raised in hospitals and children’s homes due to complex illnesses. By age three, she had already spent two years in a hospital when an elderly woman stepped in. For a year and a half, as a volunteer, she stood by the girl through thick and thin. Through their bond, we glimpse the realities of hospitals and children’s homes, where Panka believed her world—and family—were the people around her inside a barred crib.
