Veszprém rolls out a packed cultural calendar all year, but mid-May hits especially hard. Across multiple venues around the City of Queens (Királynők városa), the lineup blends exhibitions, concerts, theater, screenings, festivals, and foodie fun. Between library talks, walking tours, music marathons, and kid-friendly workshops, there’s plenty to fill your week—and your summer, too.

Highlights: May 11–17, 2026

On Thursday, May 14 at 10:00, the Eötvös Károly Library’s Kisfaludy Room hosts Is ChatGPT Really My Friend?, a talk by digital strategist Melinda Klausz tailored for students in grades 5–8. Later that day, from 16:30 to 17:30, the American Corner’s Conversation Club returns, free for anyone high-school age and up. Topic: family traditions. Perfect if you’re prepping for exams, using English for work, or just want a lively chat.

Friday, May 15, 14:30–15:30, the American Corner launches American Vibes, an English-speaking meet-up for high schoolers. Think games, quizzes, and hands-on activities about American culture, student life, and traditions. Not a class—more like a community. Expect laughs, low-key vibes, and high-key USA.

Saturday, May 16, 10:00–11:30, Kids’ Corner at the American Corner turns transport into a theme for fun English practice. Registration required. Also on May 16: Kézműves IZÉ Pünkösdölő, a crafty Whitsun celebration, brings handmade flair to town.

All week, May 11–17, join Guided Walks in the Veszprém Castle District for a close-up of the city’s crown-jewel neighborhood.

What’s Next: Late May

Guided Castle Walks continue May 18–24 and again May 25–31. On Tuesday, May 19 at 17:00, Myth Mania takes over the Eötvös Károly Library, with storyteller Cecília Stenszky bringing Norse myths and Celtic tales to life on the balcony off the event hall foyer (ZUG community space if it rains). Also on May 19 at 16:30, the French Club—Venez Parler!—meets in the library’s Dr. László Nagy Room with animatrice Ildikó Kenyeres.

Same day, 16:00–18:00, Grandparent & Grandchild: Hand in Hand in the Digital World unfolds across the Children’s Library and the American Corner. Expect stories, movement, megabytes, and cross-generational fun. Activities include a library orienteering walk, programming robot bees, a dance-off, and 3D crafting. Free, registration required, ages 6–99—bring your grandparents or grandkids.

Thursday, May 21, the Conversation Club tackles American music from 16:30–17:30. At 17:00, join the local-history stroll What the Houses Tell… through downtown Veszprém, exploring buildings and the people who lived in them. Meet at the Eötvös Károly Library amphitheater. Duration: around 1 to 1.5 hours.

Saturday, May 23 brings the Night of the Organs concert with organist Márton Levente Horváth and the Orlando Vocal Ensemble. Sunday, May 24 sees the 4th Veszprém Triathlon Festival hit the streets and trails.

End of May into June

From May 26 to 30, Veszprém hosts the TÁNC International Contemporary Festival, a five-day showcase of modern movement. On Wednesday, May 27 at 17:00, Miksa Winkler presents The State of Jewish Cemeteries in Hungary in the library’s Kisfaludy Room.

The American Corner’s Conversation Club keeps rolling: drama is the May 28 topic, Founding Fathers on June 4. Silent Book Club Veszprém gathers on Friday, May 29, 16:00–18:00 at the Eötvös Károly Library’s ZUG. Bring your current read; no assigned book, no pressure to talk—read together, share only if you want.

Saturday, May 30 delivers a double dose: American Vibes (14:30–15:30) and Kids’ Corner (10:00–11:30, topic: movies, registration required) at the American Corner. Also on May 30, the 8th Veszprém Defense Day spotlights military history and demonstrations.

Sunday, June 7 brings the 3rd Mineral Fair and Jewelry Market to Veszprém, a magnet for collectors and sparkle seekers.

Summer Stacked: Camps, Jazz, and Big-Name Gigs

June 29–July 3, the American Corner runs Red, White & Cool, a free English minicamp for teens aged 12–16, led by an American. Five days, five themes—history, geography, culture, sports, innovation. No textbooks, just teamwork, projects, presentations, and tons of speaking practice.

July 10–19, the Rosé, Riesling and Jazz Festival (Rozé, Rizling és Jazz Fesztivál) returns, blending wine and live music. VeszprémFest follows July 15–18, with heavyweight headliners: JUANES (July 15), BETH HART (July 16), KRAFTWERK (July 17), and PINK MARTINI (July 18). Tickets range roughly from 18,900 HUF to 26,900 HUF (about 51 USD to 72 USD). The broader VeszprémFest program runs July 15–18 with events from 2,000 HUF to 26,900 HUF (about 5 USD to 72 USD). Then July 23–25, the Veszprém Street Music Festival transforms downtown into an open-air stage.
