Veszprém’s Archdiocese rolls into 2026 with a full calendar of exhibitions, concerts, family and kids’ programs, guided tours, themed walks, talks, red-letter-day festivities, and church events across multiple venues in the 8200 area. From organ nights in the cathedral to intimate prayer in a 13th-century chapel, from architect-led fortress walks to a youth festival of faith, the city opens its most storied spaces and sounds to locals and visitors alike.
Opening Organ Night at the Castle
The Várhegy Organ Evenings open on Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. with guest organist András Gábor Virágh, the organist of St. Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István-bazilika) in Budapest. The program leans into the organ’s power to lift voices and hearts, setting a celebratory tone. Joining the performance: Veszprém City Mixed Choir (Veszprém Város Vegyeskara), a 50-strong ensemble led by conductor Ágnes Erdélyi. Expect the cathedral’s acoustics to do the rest. Venue: Veszprém.
Architects’ Fortress Walks: Rare Access Granted
On April 25–26, the 2nd Festival and Night of Architecture unlocks the Veszprém Castle District’s standout buildings and gardens with architects as your guides. Routes include St. Michael’s Cathedral and its crypt, St. George’s Chapel, the Major Seminary, the Archbishop’s Palace, the 13th-century Gothic Gizella Chapel, and the newly opened eastern gardens. It’s a two-day window into sacred spaces and layered urban history, with commentary that connects design, faith, and city life. Venue: Veszprém.
Faith Path I: Guided Walk with Fr. István Takáts
On May 1 at 3:00 p.m., join “The Path of Faith,” a guided walk through Veszprém Castle led by Dr. István Takáts, Vicar General. This is a chance to explore the spiritual and historical threads that bind the hilltop quarter, its churches, and its people. Venue: Veszprém.
Gizella Day: Organ, Prayer, Community
May 7, 7:00 p.m.: Gizella Day festive concert in St. Michael’s Cathedral, the second chapter of the Várhegy Organ Evenings, featuring organist András Lakner Bognár. Expect a contemplative, celebratory program under soaring vaults.
May 8, 7:00 p.m.: A new tradition begins—an intimate, roughly one-hour Gizella Day prayer in the Gizella Chapel. Space is limited; advance registration is required. Due to the chapel’s constraints, no seating can be brought in, so participants should be prepared to stand for the full duration. Venue: Veszprém.
May 9: The Archdiocese invites youth to a full-day Gizella Day faith gathering in Veszprém: registration, then a shared Mass, communal lunch, and a lineup of games, challenges, crafts, and moments of spiritual depth. Look for acolyte missions, a Magdi Walk, lively quizzes, and Caritas-themed sensitivity workshops. It’s adventure plus soul care, capped with an awards ceremony and final blessing. Sign up via catechists. Venue: Veszprém.
