Veszprém’s Archdiocese has planned a 2026 that blends sacred spaces, local character, and lived spirituality into a citywide, multi-venue program of exhibitions, family and kids’ activities, guided tours, themed walks, public lectures, red-letter day celebrations, and church events. Information and inquiries run through multiple sites across the 8200 Veszprém area, with meeting points in the historic Castle District where stories, stones, and community life converge.
Walk the Castle, Find Your Answers
On Tuesday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m., join Válaszok a várban – életvezetési minták az idő sodrában (Answers in the Castle – Life Models in the Flow of Time), a subjective and interactive castle walk along spirituality’s paths in the Veszprém Castle District. Led by Kató-Bellavics Ágota and Kató Csaba—catechists and mental health professionals, a deacon and a coach—the walk gently flips the script: not only do the walls speak; participants’ inner answers do too. The duo aims to shape a shared space where memory meets presence. “Join us on a common road where the lives of saints and blesseds offer fresh angles for everyday life. Let’s find the answers waiting among the stones of the Veszprém Castle. We look forward to meeting you, Ágota and Csaba.”
Guided Castle Walks, All July Into August
The summer rhythm features recurring guided castle walks:
– July 7–12: Guided tours across Veszprém’s Castle District, introducing the city and local specialties—architecture, faith, and community layered on one compact hilltop.
– July 14–19: More guided routes through the alleys, chapels, and courtyards where restoration meets living tradition.
– July 21–26 and July 28–August 2: Continued walks that thread heritage facts with today’s cultural pulse.
– August 4–9: Final summer stretch of guided explorations, perfect for visitors who want the big picture and the behind-the-scenes detail in one stroll.
Fridays at Five: The Castle’s 1000 Years on Film
Every Friday at 5:00 p.m., the Archbishop’s Palace (Érseki Palota) screens 1000 év öröksége – A veszprémi várnegyed megújítása (1000 Years of Heritage – The Renewal of the Veszprém Castle District). Gather at the Biró–Giczey House, Vár utca 31. Tickets: 1000 forints per person; capacity capped at 20. The documentary tracks the restoration of historic buildings, the renewal of sacred and community spaces, and the expert work that reopened the district as a vibrant cultural venue. Expect a rare look backstage at conservation, architecture, and heritage preservation—methodical, meticulous, and made for curious minds. Scheduled dates include July 10, July 17, July 24, and July 31, with the same Friday cadence continuing through summer.
Grandparents at the Heart of July 26
Sunday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m., Veszprém marks Idősek világnapja (World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly) with Mass at St. Michael’s Cathedral (Szent Mihály-székesegyház), celebrated by Dr. István Takáts, episcopal vicar. As a gesture of honor, the Biró–Giczey House at Vár u. 31 opens free to grandparents that day—an elegant nod to the memory-keepers who carry Veszprém’s stories forward.
Autumn to Advent: Music Fills the Churches
September ushers in Night of Open Churches (Nyitott Templomok Éjszakája) on September 12 with organist Tamás Kosóczki and trumpeter Péter Solymosi, then St. Michael’s Day (Szent Mihály-nap) on September 26 with organist László Deák and flutist Márk Fülep. November 21 brings the St. Cecilia Day concert with organist István Ruppert and vocalist Krisztina Bognár. On December 19, the Christmas-Waiting Advent Concert (Karácsonyváró adventi hangverseny) returns with organist Tamás Kosóczki—a warm, echoing close to a year that keeps Veszprém’s past alive by playing it in the present.
