Nestled in the heart of Veszprém, the Eötvös Károly Library (Eötvös Károly Megyei Könyvtár) is gearing up for a full program calendar in 2025, offering everything from book launches and pet therapy to international language clubs and workshops for curious minds of all ages. Whether you’re looking for family fun, want to brush up on your English, or just love the comfort of stories and new ideas, the central library and its branches are rolling out the red carpet for culture enthusiasts.
Spooky Season for Kids
On October 25, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, the third floor’s American Corner hosts its Kids’ Corner session with a Halloween twist. Primary school students gather for English practice through games and creative play—no tricks, just treats of the linguistic kind.
At the Dózsaváros Branch on October 28 at 4:30 PM, “The Magic Pumpkin” story whisks young listeners away before they compete to make fun Halloween decorations. Later that same afternoon in the main library’s Dr. László Nagy Room (Dr. Nagy László terem), the French Club “Venez Parler!” welcomes everyone looking to brush up on their French.
Puppy Therapy and Chat Clubs
For the youngest book lovers, October 29 brings canine cuddles to the Children’s Library. Babies and toddlers aged 0–3 (with a valid library card!) can meet Travel, a gentle therapy dog, under the attentive care of Anikó Jánoska from the Doctor Mancsok Foundation (Doktor Mancsok Alapítvány). It’s a safe, early introduction to kindness to animals—fresh shoes are a smart choice if it’s raining outside.
On October 30, the American Corner opens its Conversation Club at 4:30 PM for high school students and adults wanting to practice English in a relaxed group setting. This time, the theme is Gothic culture, and everyone is welcome, whether you’re preparing for exams or just curious.
From Cards to Classics
November 5 is a busy Wednesday. The Zug Youth Space (Zug Ifjúsági Tér) offers fun from 4:00–6:00 PM—a card-playing club for all ages, no poker face required. Over in the Kisfaludy Room at 5:00 PM, there’s a deep dive into “The Colorful World of Postcards”—a book launch with talks from collectors, publisher insights, and music by the Hungarikum Ensemble. Earlier, from 3:00–4:30 PM, educators gather to discuss collecting as an educational tool, led by Dr. Zoltán Poór.
Movie lovers can settle in at 5:00 PM for a surprise American classic film, courtesy of the American Corner. Entry is free (just send a message to veszpremach@gmail.com to register) and snacks are provided, but there’s always room for extra treats if you’d like to contribute.
Youth Get Loud
November 17, 2:00–5:30 PM, is all about making young voices heard at the “Your Voice Matters!” nationwide youth workshop, run by the Egyesek Youth Association (Egyesek Ifjúsági Egyesület) and hosted by the library. Entry is free with a cap on numbers, so register early. This isn’t your usual lecture—it’s a chance to talk, brainstorm, and share what’s missing from youth life today. No expertise needed, just an opinion and a bit of curiosity. Expect to meet other young people eager to shape the future of the city and country alongside you—your views matter here.
