Veszprém is bursting with cultural programs and adventure all year long. The city known as the “City of Queens” draws visitors with everything from art exhibitions, concerts, theater performances, movie screenings, and festivals to culinary events and sports matches. Stroll around the iconic Veszprém Castle (Veszprémi Vár), explore museums, the Monasteries and Gardens district (Kolostorok és Kertek), or set out for hikes in the picturesque surroundings. This is a town that refuses to rest—even its weekly event schedules are packed with activities.
This Week’s Highlights
During the week of October 20–26, in addition to online ticketing for events, Veszprém heats up with special occasions.
On October 22, at 10 a.m., the Eötvös Károly Library’s Kisfaludy Room hosts an interactive discussion with Milán Stiglincz, featuring activities designed especially for 1st and 2nd graders.
On October 23, Veszprém marks the 69th anniversary of Hungary’s 1956 Revolution with a citywide commemoration. At 6 p.m., a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Brusznyai Memorial. There will be speeches—most notably by MP Péter Ovádi—and musical tributes from the Tarsoly Band, János Keresztes, and the Hungarian Air Force Orchestra. At 7:30 p.m. in the main hall of Hangvilla, the Brusznyai family presents a moving reading, “Behind the Statue,” in memory of Dr. Árpád Brusznyai and his family. Admission is free.
Also on the 23rd, a historical walking tour revisits the events of 1956 in Veszprém, bringing the past to life for curious locals and visitors alike.
Family Fun & Spooky Activities
The American Corner at Eötvös Károly Library offers a kids’ event on October 25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., open to all children eager to learn or practice English—preferably in a scary costume. There will be Halloween-themed games and a prize for the best costume.
On October 28, the Dózsaváros Branch Library (Dózsavárosi Fiókkönyvtár) hosts “Mesekedd” (Fairytale Tuesday) at 4:30 p.m., featuring the story “The Magic Pumpkin” and a Halloween crafts session.
Later that day, the American Corner holds a Halloween Party from 3 to 6 p.m. Fulbright scholar Kyla Jernigan (visiting from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest) presents a spine-tingling talk on monsters, helps guests design their own creepy creatures, and leads games and bingo. Attendees are invited to bring their own spooky treats or drinks. Registration is required.
Dog therapy for little ones takes place on October 29, from 4:30 to 5 p.m. at the Children’s Library, where they can meet Travel, the therapy dog. Children aged 0–3 can participate if they have a valid library card and should bring a change of shoes if it rains.
Clubs and Language Events
French speakers can join the French Conversation Club at Eötvös Károly Library on October 28 at 4:30 p.m. Led by Melanie Wrede and Ildikó Kenyeres, the group meets in the Dr. Nagy László Room.
On October 30, the Conversation Club returns to American Corner from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.—this time delving into gothic culture. Whether preparing for an exam, wanting to improve English, or just looking to chat, high school students and older are welcome. Admission is free.
A classic movie afternoon is scheduled for November 5 at 5 p.m. at the American Corner, featuring a surprise film and snacks (free, but registration required).
Cultural Deep Dives & Book Launches
November 5 also brings the launch of “The Colorful World of Postcards”—a book introduced by Veszprém’s own postcard collector Dr. Zoltán Poór and edited by Ottó Galambos. Before the event, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the Hungarian Pedagogical Society (Magyar Pedagógiai Társaság) will hold a meeting on collection-based education. Taking place in the Eötvös Károly Library’s Kisfaludy Room, the event also features a musical performance by the Hungarikum Ensemble.

Look forward to guided castle walks, haunted tours, a Liszt birthday concert, the Boban Marković Orkestar concert on November 22 (tickets $32–$37), and the Menopauza Tour comedy at Veszprém Arena (Veszprém Aréna) on January 17, 2026 (tickets $26–$65). Irish dance enthusiasts can mark their calendars for Lord of the Dance 30th Anniversary Tour on March 27, 2026, with tickets from $26 to $58.
