when: 2026.01.03., Saturday
where: 2025 Visegrád, Vár

Every Saturday, Visegrád throws it back to the 14th century with a live knight tournament at Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony) and a royal banquet at the Renaissance Restaurant. The Order of Saint George (Szent György-rend) brings the spectacle: clashing steel, daring duels, and a dash of humor, all staged for a freshly “crowned” king and queen chosen from the audience and dressed in royal cloaks before the show begins.

Knights march in at the king’s call, then show off precision and combat skills with authentic medieval weapons, honoring the brave and the reckless of old. A royal hunting hawk takes to the sky mid-show for extra drama. At the finale, guests can handle and try out the weapons with the knights’ guidance. Dining at the Renaissance Restaurant is available before or after the performance.

Hands-on weapon tryout and goofy pageantry add interactive fun beyond just watching
+
The royal feast is a hearty, themed meal that feels like good value for a special outing
+
Visegrád’s Solomon Tower gives you real medieval vibes and a great lookout terrace
+
The Order of Saint George puts on a polished, English-friendly show with humor
+
Easy day trip from Budapest by car or bus, with a compact schedule that fits travel plans - Medieval knight shows aren’t globally famous, so non-history buffs may not recognize the event
Cons
Visegrád is known to some tourists but isn’t as iconic as Budapest or Eger, so it’s slightly off the main track
Some explanations may be in Hungarian; basic phrases help, though you can follow the action without fluency
Compared to big U.S./UK renaissance fairs, it’s shorter and smaller in scale, though more authentic to the setting
