Visegrád’s most thrilling family outing is back all autumn long, every Saturday. Book early and time-travel to the Middle Ages with the Renaissance Restaurant’s Visegrád Knights’ Games, a lively blend of pageantry, duels, and a feast fit for a king.

Be Crowned for a Day

Members of the Order of Saint George stage a spectacular 14th-century tournament, reenacting how warriors fought for the favor of the king and queen in medieval Visegrád. At the start, the knights pick a king and queen from the audience, robe them in royal cloaks, and crown them. At the king’s command, the armored contenders parade in and show off their marksmanship and dueling skills before the royal couple and guests.

Steel, Humor, and a Hunting Hawk

The one-on-one clashes are vivid, exciting, and often cheekily humorous, celebrating the bravery and audacity of medieval knights. A royal hunting hawk’s flight adds extra flair. At the finale, guests can try authentic medieval weapons under the knights’ guidance.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly: staged battles, audience crowns, and even a hawk show keep kids and adults hooked
+
Audience participation is a blast—getting “crowned” or trying real medieval weapons makes it memorable
+
Runs every Saturday in autumn, so easy to fit into a Budapest-area weekend plan
+
Multilingual shows (English, German, Italian, Hungarian) mean you won’t be lost without Hungarian
+
Visegrád is a well-known day-trip from Budapest with scenic Danube Bend views, so you can pair the show with castle ruins and hikes
+
Good value for a full afternoon show plus a hearty medieval-style feast at around $38.50 for adults
+
Easier than similar medieval dinner shows in the US/UK to feel authentic thanks to the historical setting at Solomon Tower and Visegrád’s royal past
Cons
Visegrád isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest or Prague, so some travelers might overlook it
Reaching it requires a bit of planning: bus or boat from Budapest works, but driving is often simpler and parking can get tight on busy Saturdays
Booking only through the restaurant by email and payment on-site feels old-school and less convenient
Drinks at the feast aren’t included, and the menu skews meat-heavy, which may be limiting for some diets
