Every Saturday, Visegrád brings the Middle Ages roaring back: a knights’ tournament at Salamon Tower and a princely royal banquet at the Renaissance Restaurant. It’s the country’s one-of-a-kind weekend crowd-pleaser, running all season long.

Audience-Crowned Royals, Steel, and Falcon Flight

Members of the Order of Saint George (Szent György Lovagrend) stage a spectacular 14th-century-style contest, showing how warriors fought for the king’s and queen’s favor in medieval Visegrád. At the start, the knights choose a king and queen from the audience, cloak and crown them, then march in at the king’s command. With authentic weapons, they prove their aim and dueling skills before the royal couple and guests. The bouts are realistic, exciting, and sometimes cheeky, celebrating knightly courage and daredevilry. A royal hunting falcon takes to the air to top it all off. At the end, guests can try medieval weapons with the knights’ guidance.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibes with audience-picked “royals,” tame thrills, and a falcon show that kids and teens love
+
Hands-on extras like trying medieval weapons make it more than just a sit-and-watch show
+
Clear schedule and one-stop afternoon plan (tower visit, tournament, then feast) keeps planning easy
+
Prices are reasonable by U.S. standards, with a budget “tournament-only” option and free entry for under-3s
+
No deep Hungarian required—visual spectacle, simple timing, and staff used to tourists
+
Visegrád is close to Budapest, so it’s an easy day trip with frequent buses/boats and simple driving
+
Unique in Hungary and compares well to European medieval shows thanks to real weapons demos and audience participation - Location name and tower aren’t as internationally famous as, say, Prague Castle or Carcassonne, so it may feel “hidden” rather than marquee
Cons
Feast is hearty Central European fare; picky eaters or vegetarians may find options limited and drinks aren’t included
Cash quirks (on-site cash or sign-up at the restaurant; card only at the info office) can be annoying for U.S. travelers used to tap-to-pay
Compared to big-budget medieval dinner shows in the U.S. or UK, production scale is smaller and weather can impact the open-air tournament
