when: 2026.01.29., Thursday
where: 2025 Visegrád, Vár

Every Saturday this season, Visegrád turns back the centuries with a one-of-a-kind medieval experience: a knights’ tournament at Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony), followed by a lavish royal feast at the Renaissance Restaurant. The Order of Saint George (Szent György Lovagrend) stages a full-blooded 14th-century spectacle, showing how warriors fought for the favor of the king and queen in medieval Visegrád. At the start, the knights pick a king and queen from the audience, robe and crown them, then march in on royal command to prove their skills with authentic weapons in target contests and duels—realistic, thrilling, and sometimes cheeky. A royal hunting falcon also takes flight during the show. At the end, guests can try the medieval weapons with the knights’ help.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly: kids can be “crowned,” watch falconry, and even try safe versions of medieval weapons afterward
+
Easy on the wallet by U.S. standards—tournament from ~$10 adults/$5 kids, full feast package under $40 adults
+
Interactive and photogenic, with audience-picked king/queen and cheeky duels that don’t feel stuffy
+
Visegrád is close to Budapest (about an hour), so it’s a doable day trip with scenic Danube Bend views baked in
+
Minimal language barrier; the action is visual, staff are used to tourists, and basics are often explained in English
+
Great food angle: hearty Hungarian-Renaissance feast with crowd-pleasers (ribs, chicken, turkey) and a dessert
+
Distinctive compared with many “medieval shows” elsewhere—authentic setting at Solomon Tower and a reputable historical order - Visegrád isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest, so many U.S. visitors won’t recognize it and may overlook the trip
Cons
Public transport is a bit piecemeal (bus/boat+bus); driving is easier but parking can be tight on summer Saturdays
Program timing is fixed (starts at noon), so latecomers or tight itineraries have little flexibility
Compared to large-scale jousting spectacles in the U.S. or UK, this is smaller in scale and production, which some might find less “epic”
