Visegrád’s 2026 calendar is packed with festivals, film nights, concerts, river cruises, and sports on the Danube, all unfolding around the iconic Visegrád Castle and the Royal Palace. The city’s flagship medieval spectacle, the Visegrád Palace Games, sets the tone, but there’s plenty more: exhibitions, theater, movie screenings, museum workshops, and family-friendly outdoor programs. If you love history with a hands-on twist, this is your summer base.
Knights, Feasts, and the Salamon Tower
Chivalry rules across multiple dates from July to October, with the Knightly Tournament (Lovagi Torna) returning to the atmospheric Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony). On July 15, 16, and 18, the stone walls come alive with duels, mounted shows, and pageantry. Later in the season, the tournament expands into Knightly Tournament or Knightly Tournament with Banquet (Lovagi torna vagy Lakomával egybekötött lovagi torna), pairing swordplay with a banquet-style feast on select Saturdays: July 25; August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; September 5, 12, 19, 26; October 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. Expect hurrahs, clashing steel, and plenty of roasted goodness.
Renaissance Days on the Danube
Renaissance Day in Visegrád (Reneszánsz nap Visegrádon) is a recurring summer favorite built around the motto: Sail, feast, and soak up the magic of the Middle Ages. You’ll catch it on July 18 and 25, then again on August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. Come for the river cruises, stay for the courtly music, parade vibes, and hearty fare that turns the town into a living history set.
SUP Sessions and Sundown Paddles
The Danube serves up easy adventure: Sunset SUP Tour (Naplemente SUP Túra) runs July 17 and 18, with the evening light washing the riverbanks gold. On July 17, SUP Yoga on the Danube (SUP Jóga a Dunán) brings yoga to the water; July 18 adds a Heatwave SUP Tour (Kánikula SUP Túra) to beat the heat. July 19 offers SUP instruction (SUP oktatás) and an Afternoon Chill SUP Tour (Délutáni chill SUP túra). It’s a mellow way to see the Danube Bend, one paddle stroke at a time.
Cinema, Jazz, and Techno
Visegrád’s movie program (Mozi műsor) runs over three long weekends: July 16–18, July 23–25, and July 30–August 1. Expect relaxed open-air vibes as the sun drops behind the hills. On August 1, the Nightingale Jazz Collective plays the terrace by the Royal Palace chapel: Dániel Hofecker (trumpet), Balázs Nagy (saxophone), Zoltán Keresztes (piano), Ákos Hasznos (bass), and Áron Nyírő (drums). When you want a harder edge, Tuning & Techno revs up on July 18.
Commemorating Jozef Karol Viktorin
On July 18, the city honors the 152nd anniversary of Jozef Karol Viktorin’s death with a morning program. At 09:15, wreaths are placed at his grave in Visegrád’s cemetery. At 10:00, JSZÖ chair Györgyné Szelényi opens the ceremony at Áprily Lajos Elementary School (Visegrád, Rév u. 2.), followed by greetings and wreath-laying at Viktorin’s memorial plaque. At 10:30, Mikuláš Urín celebrates Mass at the Visegrád Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist (Fő u. 91.), with organist István Nagy from Gúta (Kolárovo). Performers include the Pilisszentkeresztért Cultural Association and the Visegrád Swabian Choir. At 11:30, chief museologist and archaeologist-historian Péter Gróf gives a short lecture at the King Matthias Cultural Center and City Library (Széchenyi u. 11.), followed by refreshments.
Fireworks and Harvest Fun
The St. Stephen’s Day Fireworks (Szent István Napi Tűzijáték) light up the sky on August 19 for Hungary’s national holiday. Later, September 12 brings the Harvest Festival (Szüreti mulatság), a celebration with music, wine-friendly cheer, and all the grape-season traditions.
Hydrofoil Thrills and Hop-On Cruises
Multiple boat lines crisscross the Danube Bend all summer and into fall. Weekly blocks run July 13–19, July 20–26, July 27–August 2, August 3–9, August 10–16, August 17–23, August 24–30, August 31–September 6, September 7–13, September 14–20, September 21–27, September 28–October 4, October 5–11, and October 12–18. Two core options: a scheduled service between Visegrád, Nagymaros, Zebegény, Dömös, and Esztergom; and a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing loop Visegrád–Nagymaros–Zebegény–Dömös–Nagymaros–Visegrád. For speed lovers, the Bíbic hydrofoil to Esztergom runs July 24–26, August 20–23, and September 18–20 — a fast, exhilarating slice of sightseeing where the Danube’s curves flash by.
Beer Fest and Autumn Weekends
Circle October 2–3 for the Visegrád Beer Festival. It pairs perfectly with the season’s last rounds of knightly tournaments, which continue every Saturday through October, culminating on Halloween, October 31.
Where to Stay: From Riverboats to Forest Hideaways
Sleep on the water aboard the 40-room Aquamarina hotel ship, moored right in central Visegrád with sweeping Danube views. In town, Hotel Honti brings Austrian style 25 miles from Budapest in a quiet, green setting. Hotel Silvanus crowns the hills with 151 rooms facing either forest, the Citadel, or the Danube Bend, plus buffet half-board, an à la carte menu mixing Hungarian and international dishes, and an award-winning restaurant. Hotel Visegrád is a well-known wellness option and a solid pick for conferences and groups at fair prices. László Tourist House, in the center, is rented to just one group at a time and spreads across three buildings in a single courtyard — a smart base for walkers. Up on Mogyoró Hill, the Madas László Forestry School, founded in 1988 and among Europe’s first forest schools, hosts around 8,000 visitors a year. For adults-only calm, Patak Park Hotel sits by the Apátkúti stream with a mountain backdrop and deep quiet. Royal Club Hotel, just 440 yards from the center, makes an easy launchpad for hikes and panorama-chasing. And if you’re seeking something spiritual, Visegrád’s most unique retreat promises exactly that.
